Hey BMW

Bought the car (November ’19 build) with the understanding that the “Hey BMW” feature could be changed to “Hey whatever name I want” but when we got delivery in Jan 20, it was not part of iDrive.

Has anyone else, with a build post Nov 19, got this feature on their car?

Could it be part of the new software upgrade and BMW have taken it off?

Pretty I’ve seen this in the menu, but haven’t used it, so can’t confirm. I’m a Feb 2020 build.

I have a Jan 2020 build (Not much newer than a Nov 19 build) and this function is available for me.
I played with it and changed Hey BMW to Hey Beemer, just to see if it worked.

I have software version 11/2019.70 in my Jan 2020 build.

Steve, thru your posts I've noticed that your 340 has some extras and different things in Idrive that the 330i doesn't. Might be that, might be the 11/2019.30 software I've got.

Was the first thing we checked when we picked the car up at the dealership and they couldn't help even though it was on U-tube.

Been trying to download the latest 2020 version but BMW's OTA is on the fritz at the moment. Same as 4 months ago so nothing new.

My car is older than yours but software upgraded a few times (now on 03/20.30) and the function remains

Thanks NoSUV, no it never has, just the straight Hello BMW for activation. When we picked the car up it was the first thing my wife looked at because she already had a name for the car. Salesman went to their tech who had no answer either.
Wasn't fussed about upgrading software b4 but am now after seeing these posts.

Today I was trying to impress my son, so after doing the ejector seat command, I asked Hey BMW “Is Mercedes better or BMW”. It replied “Your new activation word has been saved”!!

Just got the 11/2019/70 OTA yesterday and still nothing.

The Hey BMW activation word cannot be changed from the default Guest driver profile. And the change activation word link doesn't appear when you are using the Guest profile.
If you set up a new driver profile using your Connected Drive account, once you are logged in the change activation word link will magically appear. And if you add a 2nd driver profile, you can set that to have a different activation word.

I've found it best to associate 1 key to each of our 2 driver profiles.

As you wrote, I set it up to the Connected Drive and presto, it's there.
