E60 m57 in to e90

hi all, I've got an m57 535D engine to replace an engine in my E90 335D... ive gone to do the swap and realised that the engine mount support brackets are different.

Is there anyway I can make this fit? All help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can't you just replaced the 535ds engine mounts brackets with the 335d engine mount brackets? From what I can see my x5d and 335d are exactly the same minus the second egr and how the engine mounts.

Yeah block mounting is different... i don't have the 535 mounts and the 335 mount holes don't line up.

Arw the turbos different on the 535 to the 335?

There are usually all the mounting points fir various combination. I trust you tried different positions. Turbos should be the same. Front cover is the same. I take manifold is slightly different. Turbo control system is a bit different as well. As is the CCV system.

So it’s a pre-LCI block? Btw, the motor mount arm for 335d pre-LCI and LCI seems to be the same. Unless pre-LCI 335d never came with an iron block. Interesting

You should not as long as you use all of your original equipment that hangs or hooks up to the motor. I would probably use your original valve cover. Check all other sensors like water temp and camshaft.

On the motor mount arm issue. May be see if anyone can measure for you the original e60 pre-LCI arms for that come with this motor.

So what year is your car? And what year is the donor engine? Are you sure your old engine wasn't N57?

N57 was in production from 2008, but not sure exactly for what models/markets, etc. Easy way to tell is to look at you old engine, and see if the vacuum pump is located on the front of the engine. If it is there, it's an M57. If not, it'll be in the sump with the oil pump, and it's an N57.

EDIT: Yes, you may well be right; doesn't look like the 335d got the N57 until 2013 in the F-cars.

So I've just realised that there's 2 oil pick up feeds on the doner engine and only 1 on my old one... is it safe to block up one of the feeds or will that starve my turbo and kill it?

You mean the oil pump feeds? Can you swap an oil pump?
