I just purchased my 1st car, 2020 X3 x30i, and I have several issues/ questions. I do not know much about cars and appreciate any help!

1. Is screen mirroring enabled for my idrive 6? I don't see the option, but see people mentioning.
2. Can I watch videos from my idrive display? I've seen posts where people talk about playing movies in the car.
3. I have a Samsung device and I am not getting the supported app in my Media display when I connect (bluetooth or usb). I should at least have Spotify, Pandora, and iheartradio appear from what I've read. It's annoying I cannot access my playlist and search for songs from iDrive now.
4. ConnectedApp always says my vehicle is locked and I cannot enter Destinations to send to my Nav. Anyone have these issues?
5. On 3 occasions when I am reversing, my backup camera did no display. At first I thought, maybe I touched something in the car, but when it happened again I never touched anything other than the wheel after shifting to reverse.
6. I've noticed one of my tailpipe continues to have a black residue buildup on (which thus far I can clean off when I wash my car). Anyone know what this is and whether I should be considered? I'd like to keep it from returning.

1. If it is 2020 car you don't have iDrive 6? Which is it?

2. You can watch stuff from DVD whilst stationary as std.

3. Android device should be able to play media via BT. No Android Auto.

4. 5. Revert to dealer for fix. Shouldnt work like this.

6. Sorry no idea.

#2: You cannot watch vids while the vehicle is in motion, however there is an option to code this yourself so you can watch vids while in motion (although why would you while driving, unless this is intended for your passenger?). You can code this change via an application called Bimmercode

# 4: This MIGHT be a bug as well. There's an SIB open for a ConnectedDrive issue but it's specifically for the 3D Remote View not working. It's possible that these other ConnectedDrive issues you're experiencing are related, but not sure. Could be something as simple as your email address not being valid or entered correctly. Your dealer should've have walked you through this at time of pick-up

# 5: This is a bug. There is a recall open for the the backup camera going black or blank on occasion. The dealer has to update the software in the vehicle

# 6: This is normal for most vehicles (presumably most). Nothing you can do to prevent it from returning. You'll have to clean regularly if you don't like seeing the exhaust soot

1) My 2020 has idrive 6, i heard 7 won't be rolled out in new vehicles until the summer
2) This may be silly, but how do I play a movie? I don't have a CD Input.
3) I can make calls and listen to music, but for some reason I cannot control my music apps from the vehicle

Thank you so much! I have an appointment with service next month to check the out as well. Could you let me know how I can play movies? I dont have a CD drive and when I connect a flash drive I don't see and video prompts.

You're welcome. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the same application (Bimmercode) will allow you to use a USB drive to play movies. Search for a thread called Bimmercode.

Kay, welcome to the family! You're getting a little bit of bad information as there are different specs for different parts of the world and that's sometimes lost on members here. You're in the US where iDrive 6 is standard on 2020 X3s, and it sounds like you're sure that you have iDrive 6 (fwiw, iDrive 7 has been optional here since 2020 X3s were introduce last August). Movies cannot be played in US X3s as they come from the factory. As others have said, there is aftermarket coding that you can do to allow movies to be played on our cars.

No if its got ID6 its a 2019MY - all cars built from sept/oct last year are ID7.

Yes, I wish I had looked into the idrive versions before buying. I definitely have waiteda few months and bought one with a version 7.

You can still get ID6 in 2020 on lower optioned cars for USA.

Kay, part of the confusion regarding US 2020 X3s and iDrive 7 is that almost all US 2020 X3s do in fact have iDrive 7. You need to have either the Premium Package, the Executive Package or the stand-alone Live Cockpit Pro option. You obviously do not have one of those.

No, none of that interested me. Had I known when I bought the car that andriod auto is only going to be available on iDrive 7, I would have included the live cockpit with my other add-ons 🤦

Don't feel bad. I would have waited one more month to get ID7 if I had known BMW was actually going to roll out AA.

If Harley Davidson can add Android Auto to their infotainment systems that already had apple carplay, then BMW can certainly do it. Will they?

As of last month, a BMW rep told me that as of now there is no plan to retrofit 😖

I've been hardcore Android since the G-1 on T-Mobile in 2008. I'm actually going to buy the iPhone 12 Pro when it comes out this year to see what all the fuss is about. The only two phones I've truly loved are the Motorola V330 I had back in 2005, and the G-1. People are always talking about how they love their iPhones, so I might as well try, right? And what better time than now, with my M40i that only has Carplay.

Definitely no retrofit available via BMW but some select 2020 BMW's will receive AA. There are 3rd party AA kits available though, just can't recall the brand name

Yep, being a big listed company with tons of R&D on tech, I'm sure they can do a lot of things. Lol.
