brake wear on the E92 m3?

I'm contemplating bringing the car to the track but wanted to get some facts from those of you who have already done it.

From previous track days with other cars the pad and rotors dont really last more than a weekend or two of track use. Is that the same on the M or worst?

If i stay with stock pad and they get worn out , what will the service depatment say (sonce it only has 5k miles)? Has anyone done this?

Thanks guys!

the stock pads to tend to dust quite a bit.....I mean A LOT it really builds up in the wheels....

On the track my 100% stock DCT E92 did just fine....the ABS engages a little too soon, & the stock brakes get extremely hot....but I didn't notice any significant fade....

Upgrading the pads to a true track pad and better brake fluid is really all thats needed for track work...

but I guess my main concern is wear, what about that? and does the dealer give you crap for changing brakes so often?

My front stock pads were changed out after about 2.5 hours of running during the 1st day and had about 50% left and I changed them before the next trackday. The next day I did was in the rain on a much harder braking circuit and I used about 30% of the pad life in about an hour of running in the pouring rain. The yellow pagids that I have run in the past, used to last about 4 hours on this track in the dry as a reference point. The rears still have about 50% left after these 2 days.I will probally use the pagids next year for track days.I run with all the traction & stability aids turned off all the time on track.

A guy that went to VIR with me had one rotor with some warpage/brake deposit that vibrated. He took it into dealer and they replaced both front rotors/pads. The car had ~2,500 miles on it.

Mine lasted thru the weekend, and aren't bad enough to change yet. If I do another track event this fall they'll be toast.

With my e46 330i, I didn't last a weekend w/o the pads melting to the rotors and becoming a grinding mess.

If you plan to get on the brakes hard, I strongly suggest that you get track pads. On 3 different occasions now, the stock pads in my car melted onto my rotors, which causes vibration for the next 3-4 weeks when you brake.

The dealer might replace your stock pads/rotors 3-4 fours times during the 4 years, but they won't do it every 3000-4000 miles.

I had the same experience as the others here. The rotors and pads were replaced under warranty at 3,500 miles due to warping. Its been to the track 2 weekends. I'm looking into a better solution. My 335i never had this issue.

I had the vibration on track during a longer session when they got good and hot but once they cooled off,I had zero vibration on the street.I am very sure that a proper set of track pads will solve the on track braking issues.

The stock pads were never designed to be used as a "track" pad.
Order yourself a set of Pagid Yellows for the front and change the fluid.

the pagid RS19 "yellows" ARE NOT a street pad...that is a full blown race pad that will squeal alot on the street and does not have the cold performance a street pad needs....

I did notice towards the end of my track session the brakes were vibrating quite a bit...but watching the pads smoke when I got off the track can't be good either...however it went away as soon as I got on the street & it fine now

that's what I did and what a difference - wear on the rotors is however higher than with the street pads...

100% correct - I always change them before track days and put the street pads back on right after...the Pagids will eat up your rotors if you leave them on and don't get enough heat into them...which you never will on regular roads

air ducts?

there are no airs ducts for cooling the brakes on an M3? Why not? that might keep the deposits down when running with stock pads.

I'm sure there is some type of ducting...but haven't looked for it.....

the stock pads dust ALOT.....and work okay at the track.... it all depends on your skill level...if you are a novice like me and still learning the car....just run it bone stock, you will be fine.....once you learn the car and really start pushing it....then you will need the upgraded brake pads...
