Diff removal.

The rear diff bush is very cracked so I’ve got Some Polybush replacements coming tomorrow. I can’t make my mind up whether the exhaust, which is original so still 1 piece to the dpf, is going to have to come out or not. If not then I can do it on the drive on jack stands. If it does have to come out then I’ll need to get the whole car up in the air.
The car is a 330d so single exhaust and a guibo on the rear of the prop not 50mm nut like it seems some cars have.
Thanks.

You can definitely do it by lowering the exhaust (not removing), and without disconnecting the drive shafts either. I did mine on my driveway with the rear of the car on axle stands. Have you got a bushing press to remove the old parts?

Do you mean just unhook the exhaust and let it dangle a bit? The thing that looks tight is the guibo is right where the heat shield ends so I’m not sure if that needs to come out to get to the nuts and bolts.
As for pullers/presses, yes I’ve got a large set and 2 smaller sets I learnt my lesson years ago trying to get bushings out without them!

Yep. Unhook all the rubber mounts, and lower the exhaust a bit. I propped mine on a block or something...just to minimise the strain on the flexi.

You don't need to take the driveshafts or propshaft off to replace the bushings in the subframe. You will need to remove that heat shield though, and just let the diff down on a jack.

Oh! That’s interesting to hear. I presumed the diff needed to come out completely.

I'm sure it's easier to do the bushings if you remove the diff completely, but then you should be replacing any giubo bolts you remove, etc etc...
