Metal scraping sound from wheel or brake?

So was driving home today and as a braked at a stop light I heard a loud metallic sounding squeal coming from the left front of the car. I wasn’t even sure whether it was my car but as soon as the light changed I heard it again as I pulled away and the sound kept going for another block and stopped just before I pulled over to see what it was. Could it have been a branch or stick In the wheel? Maybe a pebble inside the brake pad? By the time I pulled over the sound had stopped and I couldn’t see anything in any wheels indicating damage or anything stuck there. There was a slight brake wear smell coming from the left front tire where the sound emanated from. Sound did not return the rest of the way home and car otherwise is working perfectly.

Any ideas?

Possibly a rock stuck between the rotor and the guard.

Would think it would be too early for a G01 unless you drive a lot, but what about worn out brake pads?

Like other people said, a foreign material between the brake pads and rotor.. from rocks to oil/grease.

I think it must have been a rock. No repeat issues since. Thanks for the replies
