Acoustic Glass for $150 on bmwusa.com
Hello,
Hope everyone is doing well. Does anyone know or have a thought why this option became available? Also, do you feel it's worth it? Thanks! |

It's been available for many months now. Ordered my 2020 with it. It's only on the two front windows. It's meant to quiet down noises through the front window glass. I feel that it is worth it for $150 for upgraded glass. On the freeway I can be cursing and whispering to another person. Not sure that's a very good test but it is quiet.

I think it is worth it and would order it again without hesitation.
From a G01 brochure: "The acoustic glazing on the front side windows complements the acoustic glazing on the front windscreen and significantly reduces the level of noise for everyone inside the vehicle. It minimizes noise created by the outside surroundings and flow of air, as well as by the engine, tires and windscreen wipers. Music listeners and hands-free device users in particular will appreciate the difference this makes."

https://www.mbusa.com/en/vehicles/bu...=entertainment I have it. It's probably the best bang for the buck option you can order (although adaptive suspension, for $700, may be more important). |

When i spoke to a dealer about the glass. He told me not to do it because it'll cost you a lot more money to replace that glass as oppose to a regular glass. I mean he could of said that just to make me not make it a 'must have' option for me to get the car lol

What are the chances you will have to replace the front door glasses anyhow? Yea not sure what kind of logic your dealership agent is using or what he/she is smoking lol. |

The front windscreen on all BMW X3's at least since 2018 is acoustic glass. It was an option in the X3 front side windows internationally since the 2018 model release - typically for $250. Since 2020, it's an option in the USA as well - and only for $150. Personally; I think it should be standard, at least in the upper trims. Seriously, $150 add-on on a $69,500 car?
Many other manufactures are offering this option. I just read the the Sevio Quadrifoglio will have it standard for 2020. As to repair cost? What a weird argument. A) I don't think the cost difference is very much, and the glass is only part of the repair cost. B) Insurance usually has free glass or it's part of comprehensive which is typically low deductible. I've had both the 2018 X3 without (wishing I had it) and the 2020 X3 with. I it makes a difference. My 2020 is quieter. However, I disable the fake engine noise (ASD) and the 2020 has an ID7 options for ASD default. That is to say, acoustic glass doesn't stop the fake engine noise coming out of your speakers, as such, acoustic glass with ASD on will yield less difference. (I also disabled ASD on my 2018). That said; very happy to have acoustic glass. I would have paid more for it, but wish it was standard.

This is a great resource https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1598454 and https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...ont/1VncD6mSrJ
I was getting ready to order from my dealer or online, when a used set became available on the marketplace. I ended up picking it up from the seller when the swinging through his town. Very easy to install, minus the two poorly engineered torx screw fasteners at the bottom of the door panel. |

Acoustic Glass Definitely Worth It
I order the acoustic glass on my 2020 Delivered in March and it is best bang for the buck. I would not order another car without it. Significantly reduces cabin noise at higher speeds.

They should just have it come standard across all their cars, and shouldn't be an option imo. Both my previous 2014 Lexus GS350 Fsport had it, and my MB C450 had it. The ones on the GS was also especially thick it was almost like 2 layers of the glass from my x3 stacked together. Well, you can see the 2 layers if you look at the glass from the top when the window is opened.
My 2018 x3 m40 has a lot more wind noise by comparison for sure. |

If a concern is that it will cost more to replace....I have to ask...
Has anyone ever had a side window break? How and why would this break under normal operation? (I did, But it was the kid next door testing his slingshot on my 1996 P.O.S.)

Thank you all for your opinions and experiences. I’ve decided to go with this option when the time comes. This truly should be standard. The German makes always find ways to nickel and dime features. Haha
