I had bought cheap Apple CarPlay from ebay a while back, which some of you may know causes big problems if BMW update the car's firmware (satnav gets bricked!), and due to having the adblue error warning meant my car needed updating!

Simon tried yesterday lunchtime to remotely return the car to stock using an FSC repair pack (which I sourced from Shawnsheridan for free!), but the CarPlay activation had messed things up too badly, so Simon insisted on coming out to me in Norwich last night after he fitted an EVO & 6WB for someone in London! Simon is based in Southampton!!

He got to mine at 22:30, and was meant to take max 2 hours, but ended up finishing at 3am!!

It is actually the first time I've met him in person and he was absolutely amazing, his knowledge and skills are astonishing, and he was really friendly and nice throughout. He very willingly not only returned the EVO to stock, but also updated the firmware on the whole car, 27 ECUs on my highly specced M40d! and also reactivated Carplay for me, so I don't need a trip to the dealers now hopefully.

Lots of you already know about him, but if you want any coding, CarPlay or virtually any option retrofitted then he is the guy to see:

I wonder if he can do vehicles remotely in the US... is there a list of things that can be coded?

Not sure, but you could ask him.

Although if it’s just coding you want to do then the bimmercode phone app is cheap and very easy to use.

Was that the option with USB activation? One file for activating, other for deactivating?

I bought the laptop and enet cable version, as I wanted fullscreen carplay.

Either way I don't believe there's an easy way to remove it before taking car for dealer update.

Laptop is absolutely necessary for full screen CarPlay?

I have both an Ethernet & laptop. I don't have esys or any idea what to do via esys. I also don't want to run into issues coding full CarPlay when the car needs servicing/updates.

Yes I wouldn't advise either method for that reason.

Best to find your nearby equivalent of Bavarian Coding to do it for you.

Just noticed mine is now U version, and ebay Carplay solutions only appear to work up to S version, so it possibly wouldn't work on a freshly updated car.

My SatNav was bricked after dealer updated something. I use Adam from ddcoding. He sorted for free remotely, and does most of his work remotely and covers all over the world. Top bloke 👍
