removing bottom part of rear bumper

Hi,
New x3 owner here. Just have a question if you know, while installing hitch for my 19 x3 do I have to remove whole rear bumper, or can I just remove the bottom part.
I read some people here are able to remove just the bottom part on M40i, I have 30i. Any ideas?

I'd guess that silver part clips into the white bumper itself.

But have a look a realoem.com Enter your VIN number then follow the parts to 'Vehicle Trim' and there should be exploded view diagram of your rear bumper...
