Questions regarding the Homelink Buttons

Do you guys have the engine on while pressing the button on the rear mirror and close the garage door after you drove your car into the garage?

I notice some other cars can close the garage door with their homelink without the engine on while the starter is in ignition "1" (i.e. electronic "ON").

Well, I still don't understand. Does it mean you have to close the garage door while the engine is on while all those exhuast smell still lock inside the garage?

How about open the garage door? Does it mean it is safe to turn on the engine first, then you press the button in order to open the garage door?

I am not complaining the BMW homelink feature, but I am just wondering about the safety issue.

^ That's why you install one into your ashtray. Then it is always on, and no one knows its there.

So, what's the point having a hidden one? Is this out of topic?

When I'm leaving the house I always press the button on the wall as I enter the garage to open the garage door so it is open by the time I'm in my car and ready to go. When I get home I drive in, press the button on my mirror and turn the car off as the garage is closing.

If you have an auto you can press the stop/start button without your foot on the brake and then the home link button will work.

I see, so I have to change my daily habbit to this car.

My other car has a homelink as well; however, I can close / open the garage door when I swithed the key to the 1st position (i.e. with electronic "on" prior all the check lights are on in the dash board while it is in the 2nd position).

Thanks.
