N53 crickets
Hi
I know the n53 is known for a rough sounding idle compared to say the N52 and that the noise / clatter is the piezo injectors and the HPFP solenoid. There is another noise that sounds like brake disc rubbing slightly, like a high pitched crickets in the distance type sound. Maybe that's just the solenoids etc but has anyone managed to either quieten it down or drown it out with a louder exhaust or intake mods? Thx Mike |

Hard to tell which noise you're referring to without a soundtrack. Depending on miles covered, the rubbing sound could be serpentine belt/pulley/tensioner...
But you're right, the N53 isn't quiet (still a great engine though IMHO). One thought - if your car isn't fitted with the under-bonnet blanket (or it's worn out) worth considering this to reduce underbonnet noise. Also the noise-absorbing foam under the cosmetic cylinder head cover tends to deteriorate with time.
