2021 model variances?

Guys,

I realise the G05 is likely to run for another couple years, but are we expecting to see any changes for 2021?

My understanding is that MY20 production will end in July (typically). With all the coronavirus delays, I was just curious if were likely to see any changes with MY21.

More than likely there will be some small, mainly software related, changes/additions for MY21 but nothing major just like there was between MY19 and MY20.

If you’re asking about the LCI model refresh then no. That typically arrives 3-4 years into a new model.

It's a shame that the software changes are not offered to older models even if it has all the necessary hardware.

I was hoping they would be but I guess they have to have some differentiation between MYs. Some you can do with coding and others, like the drive recorder, are/will be available for purchase.

I'm sure there is more but the ones that come to mind are the drive recorder, assisted driving view and the LED sky lounge roof.

DR is available for older models, it seems its just not in the US connected drive store. In other countries MY19 cars are getting it retrospectively though.

I didn't know Skylounge wasn't available previously, when did they introduce it? Obviously there will be no solution for that one with a software update

I always assumed it was an original option from the start - i didn't start looking to G05/G06 until late 19 so it was all MY20 at that point and I took it for granted that Skylounge was an 'old' feature. In the UK, its the only sunroof option.

You learn something new everyday as they say.

Yes but that was planned and announced in advance as a new variation of the X5 not a MY feature addition.

Any software changes are non engine specific and will apply to all models. If a new feature drops for MY2021, it will apply to the MY2021 M50i just like every other model.

The new G05 X5 was a 2019 late release showing up to dealers in extremely limited numbers in November 2018. Production was filled with part shortages when getting the manufacturing line up and running. Even in April of 2019 there was options and combinations left out due to parts being delayed in manufacturing. The firmware updates to fix initial bugs are still being released.
This means for all intent purposes it’s still very new so it will be awhile until refreshes begin.

Is the assisted driving view not on MY19 (apologies if this has been covered before) ?

No, BMW did not make ADV available on the beta tester MY2019s cars even with software updates for some dumbass reason or inattention. But it's now fairly trivially codeable on MY2019s.
