Alternatives to what’s already known - HPFP

So working on many different engines and different projects over the years, one tends to look for different, and mainly cheaper, alternatives to what’s already known to work.

I’ve been pondering the idea of adapting a different HPFP from different vehicles onto the N55 as possible cheaper solution to what’s already out there — $1000+ options. I know it’s cam driven and even thought about maybe using a different camshaft that has a bigger lobe to drive the fuel pump harder, like what people do with the GM GenV LTx engines, but seems like it would an expensive engine component.

The HPFP in the BMW S63 has caught my attention. Does this engine use one or two pumps?

The OE part is $220. Are you looking for additional fueling?

Not looking for a direct replacement, I’m looking for something that provides more fueling than the POS that’s already on there.

Why do you think the current part is a POS? They're fairly reliable if not totally reliable.

Mine is maxed out or failing on a custom tune - and was giving problems with JB4. They aren’t bullet proof.

there's the b58 pump, spool, dorch engineering, and xdi. I read a thread about someone who was going to try and remove the secondary fuel filter/screen from the HPFP, but the thread never went anywhere after that and I can't imagine it would do that much anyway. besides that, a $1000 pump is not much, 6+ months ago when the XDI pump was the only one out it was like $2,500.
