Name the missing part!?
I bought this 07 328xi n52 as a flip car. The valve cover was taken off and was told all that it needed was the vvt actuator motor. The vvt motor was missing all together so I got one, installed it along with a new vcg then put a new battery in (was told it had sat for months and tested the battery and it was shot in two cells). Went to fire it up, didn't start but afterwards I noticed an oil leak underneath the car. Come to find out its leaking from whatever missing part (the shiny metal hole) goes there. It's above the water pump and I couldn't see any electrical connections that would plug into it but you can tell there's something that went there. It feels like there's a female thread inside the hole.. Any ideas..? I've pulled up diagrams and haven't found anything yet so I needed to call in the big guns in search of the answer

It looks like the hole for the non-return valve.

That looks to be a better answer. The check valves are tucked further up and to the right if I see where those pictures are from. Either way it's a mess of cables and hoses in there beside the exhaust manifold.

Chain tensioner, you should have probably looked a little more into some stuff like the timing before putting the valve cover back on. I’d definitely pull the valve cover back off and check the timing and hope nothing got damaged or was already damaged which would explain why it’s missing.

It's not the non return valve. It's just to the right of that towards the front. It's about an inch to inch and a quarter size threaded hex bolt. Nothing goes on the end of the bolt though I know that much just from looking at diagrams.

You're absolutely right. And I have no idea. I bought it torn apart so I have no idea if it threw a belt and threw time or not. From the sound of trying to start it I'm gonna say it did so gonna take the valve cover back off and take a peek at it.

Well, your theory could be spot on, at this point I'm curious what's inside the vcg... Is the front main seal intact? |
