Long time no service
Hi (new joiner to this section)
We’ve recently become owners of an ex pool 320d 2014 model. It’s a great car which we have driven for years. Faultlessly reliable and running very well at present with 120k miles. The snag is, it has never been serviced at BMW, in fact I’m inclined to think it’s never had anything but a generic oil change or two and pads/tyres from a backstreet . I know it’s been driven well throughout it’s life, nothing has ever broken and we aren’t aware of a new clutch (it’s fine at the minute). Having taken ownership, I’m worried that with 120k on the clock it might have some issues looming that would have been addressed by regular BMW servicing. I’m thinking of going to a bmw independent. What do people think? Should I go to full fat BMW? They do have nice coffee...and I can pretend to be interested in models I can’t afford. Is there anything typical of this model at that mileage that needs urgent attention? I’ve started back reading the forum but just wonder if there’s a really well known issue. It’s a real credit to the F30 that it drives (touch wood) like a new car at the minute. My main is an M5 and it’s often 50:50 which car I’d prefer to use, there’s something really enjoyable about such an all rounder. I’d like to keep it to 250k as my new main so I don’t mind some proportionate overdue investment. |

If it were me, I would take it to the dealer for a service inspection. Then to save money take it to a reputable Indy shop for any repairs the dealer recommends.

Dealers can sometimes come up with unnecessary repairs/replacements not to mention a hefty inspection fee. I suggest saving your time and money and going straight to the best indy you can find nearby. Have them give it a thorough check-up and then decide what you want to repair/replace.

I'm confused. Are you the original owner? Is there a reason you haven't serviced it?
TBH if it were me, at 120k, I would let it ride until something pops up. Obviously aside from oil changes and possibly plugs and a flush. Definitely an Indy would better serve you |

I'd be inclined to use a good Indy, for future servicing. Could get the Indy to ensure all service items are up to date, like filters. Plus give it an inspection/'health' check. |

If it was me, and it sort of is (just got a 2016 with 80K miles), change the things that need doing--plugs, belts, maybe tensioner, filters, all the fluids you possibly can--trans, diff(s), transfer case, coolant, brake.
Pray, wash it, and enjoy the ride! DIYing will save you thousands and give you lots of satisfaction and frustration, but get you out of the house.
