How does JB4 work?

Does anyone have the technical facts, not vague descriptions, of how JB4 works?

It tricks the ECU to make changes to some parameters (boost, AFR, timing,etc...)

It also connects to Canbus which gives it the ability to add features like boost by gear, boost by RPM, safety failsafe,etc...

Can the jb4 work without the obd connection? I read somewhere were they say it can and the obd connection is only for the gauge control thing. Like switching using the built in stalks and speedometer gauge

Yes, I was looking for the figures, or there abouts, of what is changed for each map.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the continued replies. I've seen those figures, but, maybe I'm reading them wrong here, is the 3psi for Map1 just in increase in turbo pressure - no change to timing or anything else?

The reason I ask is, I had my old car remapped - reprogrammed ECU. The gearbox spat a tooth shortly after.

I'd like to get a better understanding of what is actually changed before I risk the same decision again. I know the B58 in my G29 Z4 M40i can do a lot better though!

You might want to ask Burger Tuning directly for a better answer but from my understanding yes you are correct. Map 1 will pretty much add 3 psi of boost to stock

Why don't you got to n54tech and ask the guy who makes it? I mean that's the real source of info, unless you trying to not get the best source of info?

The JB4 includes full diagnostics in the app so record ad JB4 log and post it here and I can tell you if it looks safe or not. The map used has mostly to do with the octane being used and what the factory software is.

Will you be kind enough to do that for a measly 330i as well? I’m running map 2 now with ~E30 mix. I wanna know if map 3 is better because sometimes, I feel map 3 is better and at other times, map 2 seems to pull harder. No other mods other than a JB4.

Can I manipulate the oil and coolant temperatures and/or disable the cold start procedure with the JB4?

It's been out since 2008 lol. If you want a lot of power and features without having to void warranty with a flash the JB4 is the best way to get there. If you want exhaust pops and bangs you're going to have to bite the bullet and reflash it.
