2018 - 340 - dealer woes

Hey Guys,

Im starting to panic here...
Ontario, Canada car.

Went in for service 1, and they attempted to do a recall.

the nearest dealer told me something is up with the control unit, it is blocking them from coding and i have to go back to the purchase dealer for the fix.
I almost snapped then and there...
They claim an unsupported app was installed or something was done on the idrive? I have no idea what they are talking about tbh.

I would normally not care, as the recall is the emmission sensor one.
But if i dont get the recall done, it is some sort of "negligence" of maintenance.

Any thoughts on the matter?

This is a demo car from a BMW dealer. I leased this.
Service was done elsewhere.

Seems like it should be easy to figure out when that change was done via timestamps. Working backwards they could find out if it was done before or after you leased the car.

Sounds like your car wasn't supposed to come with Connected Apps but it was coded to enable them. Possibly by some overeager person modifying a loaner car, or the dealership trying to enable it to make the car seem more attractive.

agreed 100%, but regardless isnt this a simple fix not worth arguing with the customer?

anything on google seems to point to "M LAPTIMER" app?

maybe someone installed the laptimer when they shouldnt have or?

I got everything on mine updated involuntarily because the ASD module was faulty. It is still not working but the thing is that they should be able to reinstall and reconfigure everything from scratch in my opinion. I'm pretty sure they have the ability. After the update my connected store never worked and it just gave me a QR code saying that ConnectedDrive is not available for my vehicle, which is total bs because I was able to purchase CarPlay a few months ago.
