Back from the body shop and....

whilst the new bumper looks ok there seems to be some marks that were not there before... any ideas what could cause this whilst in a body shop like heat guns or something as I am adamant it wasnt there before...

The one on windscreen is annoying since in line of sight

Garage List
Looks to me as it could be some chemical, some solvent perhaps. On the body it will buff away but the windshield not so sure.

Possibly overspray

Does it have a rough texture with you pass your hand over it? I would take it back and have them touch up the detail process.

I would say that is overspray as well. Take it back and they will take care of it.

Typical slobs. Everytime you leave your prized vehicle expect to be surpised!

haha, so frustrating isnt it. You just know they're not overly careful plus it was insurance recommended garage and was a Ford dealership.

Taking it back in tomorrow morning

Yeah paint or clear overspray. Simple novice mistake the body shop or paint shop makes when the vehicle is not prepped correctly, and the painter does not have proper technique to paint your vehicle. I dont know who the shop was, but they should not be touching a vehicle of this caliber if this the work they perform. Also I do not know if this was a full retail job? There are places in the US that you can get a paint job for less than 50% off of retail but you understand the quality that comes with it. Paying full retail you expect proper work.

To the complaint department you go.

Always use bmw garage not insurance recommended, especially if still under warranty.

Not sure that is possible to be honest

Anyway, took the car in and 5 minutes later they had remove all the marks from paintwork and the glass. Simple job for them (whatever they used) but I certainly couldn't get them out

I realise its too late now, however:
You have the right to use your own repairer, not the insurance companies recommended one.
You may lose out on your insurance benefits (i.e. Loan car) by doing this though, but its definitely worth it in the long run. Always state that you would like the repair to be done at a local BMW Service Centre.

Insurers often put up the excess if you nominate your own repairer but one way around this is to state that you need the paintwork warranty maintaining. Only by using a BMW approved repairer can you maintain the warranty.

I did exactly this when I pranged my Audi. Stated I wanted it repairing at the garage I purchased the car and said this was the only way I would be confident in the work and to maintain the warranty. No issues at all and the car came back perfect.
