While taking off the OEM downpipe on my N26 to install my VRSF catless downpipe, I couldn't get the lower v band clamp holding the downpipe to the midpipe to come off.

The nut and bolt holding the vband clamp together are rusted to hell and aren't giving whatsoever.

My original intention was to use a pry bar to snap the clamp open but I can't seem to get enough leverage on it.

To those who have run into this issue how did you deal with it?

Thanks.

Answering my own question.

For anyone that runs into this issue use a reciprocating saw to cut through the metal attaching the bolt section to the vband.

If your car is from 2015 or before you're likely going to run into this issue. Recommend taking a look at the vband before getting started on the install.

Definitely have a spare one on hand for reinstallation. 50 dollars at BMW. PM for part #

Not necessarily a model year issue, this is a N20 vs. N26 difference. It looks like you have an N26, which has a weird V Band clamp with teeth in it. The N20 clamp is much simpler and less likely to be impossible to remove. That being said, it is always best to have an extra everything ready to go regardless of N20 vs. N26, should you need to destroy the one that is already on the car, as in cases like yours.

Issue wasn't the teeth though. The issue was the rust on the bolted section. Having an N20 won't prevent this area from becoming rusted over with time.

If you're in a dry area you're probably less susceptible to rusted parts, but still something to keep in mind.

Oh I see, yah in that case doesn't matter what engine you have.

Turns out the teeth were an issue too. Had to pry those off individually after I sawed the clamp off 🙄
