Cracking Steering Wheel

Has any experienced cracking on their steering wheel? I have had this show up in a few locations on the wheel just recently. I'm nearly certain they are scratches, at least I hope, but if they are I'm clueless as to how they would have happened.

That's not cool, I'd def get that fixed by the dealer. Worse case, replace it with an upgraded M steering wheel with that alcantara covering.

Damn! Do you park it outside and is there lots of sun? Just curious what could’ve caused this. I guess it could just be a manufacturing defect.

I scratched up the leather on my steering wheel several cars ago. I had a pocket knife that was clipped to the right side of my belt, turned out the clip for the knife was rubbing the steering wheel as I dropped into the car. I switched to wearing it on my left side and the problem was solved.

I sit pretty close to the wheel, just because, and the little button things on the sides of jeans always rub the wheel. I plan on trying to code an easy-out feature to slide the seat back some when the car is off, so I won't snag the wheel. I've learned to just be more careful when getting into the car, but would be much easier if the seat moves back.

That honestly looks like something scraped your steering wheel. I doubt the dealer would fix it

The same steering wheel damage happened to me as well, I think my watch did it. Doubt the dealer can/will do anything about it since it's physical damage and not a defect.

Wedding ring. I'm guessing you keep your hand at the 12 o clock position when you drive.

Thanks for the feedback. I wanted to confirm it wasn't a known issue with the leather... Based on the feedback it's probably just my clumsy ass that scratched it, somehow.

It might help to moisturize and treat the steering wheel with some good products. I use Leather Masters. It doesn't make mat leather shiny.

That looks like a scuff caused by a person. I did this on a previous vehicle when the zipper on my coat scuffed the steering wheel as I slid in. Depending on how the wheel was turned, when you rotate it back to normal, a scuff from a zipper or belt buckle down low could end up on the side or top of the wheel.

If it's happening a lot and in different positions around the wheel, it is most certainly a scuff you are causing and I'd suggest paying attention to what happens when you get in or out of the car to determine the cause.

I had this on my wheel. Groit’s leather care made the scuff disappear. https://www.griotsgarage.com/product...ks&from=Search
