Key fob deactivation
I just had one of my key fobs stolen. I called the dealership, who said that it would take them 1.5 hours to deactivate, and they dont offer a loaner for this. Does anyone have any experience with this? I cant imagine what could possibly take so long.

If you don't have an appointment, that sounds like a pretty fast turnaround. They need to wait for a tech to become available and then for someone to reprogram your car's ECU. My dealership sometimes takes 30 minutes just to see my service adviser with an appointment.

Yes, ISTA+ is the dealer diagnostics tool that they use worldwide. It’s not a random 3d party tool.

I bought a second hand BMW car from BMW dealership but they only provided me with a single set of keys (I'm assuming the original owner lost the 2nd pair when they part exchanged it back to BMW). I asked BMW if it's standard practise for them to remove any key fobs before they sell the car on but I haven't received an answer back from the original sales man :| (prob doesn't want to know me now that he's sold the car). Asked another BMW dealer where I didn't buy the car from they said they would charge 1 hours labour to view/remove a key fob you didn't want on the car. In theory and practise, would I be able to download that software and remove the keyfob that's gone missing myself? Last edited by NiKRuLeZ; 01-11-2024 at 10:23 AM.. |
