On bmwusa.com it looks like both these cars have the same 0-60 MPH times. Presumably the M4 is faster to the quarter mile as the added horsepower allows it to pull ahead. Still, it's pretty amazing that a non-M car can go toe-to-toe with an M car.

Yea, M340 runs with prior gen M3 and M340. Curious about quarter mile but agree the M cars pull ahead.

M340i did the 1/4 in 12.7 in the car wow drag race video. They did a drag with the M4 a little while ago where it ran a 12.6.

The M4 has a standard manual transmission. If you add the optional M-DCT, which is a better comparison to the M340i's ZF8, it is two tenths quicker to 60MPH.

Stated more poignantly, the M340i's standard ZF8 automatic transmission and optional xDrive make up for it's ~40hp deficit in power as compared to the base model M4.
