No bang when upshift?

My f32 435 with sport auto used to have rough shift when shift up at high rpm and more than 80% throttle. Shift is smooth at low rpm or light throttle.

My new g20 m340ix just passed 2500 km and i have given it a try. But no bang! Wtf? Full throttle at 6000 rpm . The shift light at hud even showed up! What the hell is going on?! A M performance line up car should have rougher shift than my old 435 right?

I test drove a 320d recently and when I put it in Sport mode it did do those "kicks in the back" that you are talking about. Hmm, weird, I would except it to have it too.

I have the same car and definitely does do it but not consistently. I haven't figured out what the exact conditions are when it does other than what has been mentioned above

My 330i does it when I’m WOT and transmission is in S. I don’t know if it does it in M mode. The A7 and SQ5 do it too when I drive WOT and shifter in S.
If it isn’t WOT, it doesn’t bang on upshifts.

Mine doesn't do it even in full throttle

Turn off traction control and the car is a lot more aggressive. When it's on it's very muted.

Same here. The car doesn't aggressively bang on the upshift all the time, maybe 60 percent of the time. On full throttle, it just switches gears with a lag in between them. Disappointing that it doesn't sound more aggressive in between gears!

Mine does the bangs on up-shifts and downshifts in Sport plus and they're aggressive. My car is also RWD with near 6k miles so don't know if that makes any difference.

I know you've tried it in Sport Plus mode, but try Sport Individual and make sure Transmission is in Sport Plus mode. Coming from an F30 340 and felt the same way - I noticed the same thing at first, but in Sport Individual with the Transmission set to Sport Plus it definitely felt like the shifts were firmer.

Could be the transmission programming or something, but maybe give Sport Individual a try and see if it helps?

I tried. Not working. It is more like a exhaust fart than transmission bang! Just sound no feel.

Are you suggesting that your car doesn't perform as well as it should? Does it go 0-60 in 4s like the other M340 cars? Even professional reviews rave about how "silky smooth" the acceleration is. If it's fast and smooth don't worry about "bang" between shifts and enjoy the fact that you aren't beating on your transmission.

A clunky or noisy shift change does not make it better. M340 shifts smoother and faster than your previous vehicle. This make for better performance and mileage.

M340i burbles disappearing after software update

Hi all

My M340i xDrive (European model - Denmark) had good deep burbles on downshifts when I got it back in October 2019, however in Europe the M340i never had the pops on upshift like in North America.

But since the latest software upgrade in December 2019, the burbles have almost disappeared. My trusted BMW dealership tells me, that it is due to EU regulations to lower emissions and noise!? You also see the same thing happening to the good sounding Audi RS3 which is now almost quite as a bird. Also the new AMGs are suffering badly under the new regulations.

Still love my M340i … but will consider getting it “ECU mapped” for more sound and horsepower when the warranty runs out 😊

2020 M340i  [0.00]
Hi folks

2020 M340i (built 2019-04-09), with most recent 07/2020.54 OTA update.

Have not lost any pops or burbles (must be in sport mode at least, comfort will give zero pops or burbles I find, which makes sense)

In all sport settings it pops and burbles almost anytime I'm over 2-3k. Louder at higher rev's obviously.

I did notice the bang on upshift MUCH more frequently and loudly before the last OTA update, as in almost everytime i upshifted in sport.

Since the newest update, have noticed it usually occurs at lower speeds when gassing it... ie say rolling at 20km/h if you gun it you'll get a really nice upshift bang.

At highway speeds 100km/h+ if you WOT , it will simply upshift and you get no bang.... UNLESS you flick the gear lever over to sport/manual (again, car in sport/individual sport+, gear lever over to sport/manual)

All in all it seems inconsistent with whatever change they have made. but such is life
