M Sport Brakes - Fast Wear/Tear?
Hi everyone,
I'm going to place an order for a 2020 X5 sDrive40i soon and one of the options I added to my build is the M Sport brakes (our current 2018 X5 sDrive35i has regular brakes, which don't have very good stopping power). As part of our new lease, I'm thinking of getting the Ultimate Care+ for 3 years/36k miles, which is $700 and covers M Sport brakes. Does anyone with M Sport brakes on a G05 X5 have experience with the wear/tear on them -- specifically, at how many miles do you think the brake pads will need to be changed? Our current X5 has about 13-14k miles on it and the computer estimates the rear brake pads will need to be changed in about 10k miles and the front pads in about 20k miles. Do the M Sport brakes wear out just as quick or do they last longer? I just want to know if the extra $700 is necessary or if I can get away with not getting the coverage. We plan to do a 36/12 lease. Thanks everyone! |

Depending on your driving, you'll either go through your entire lease without having to replace the M Sport brake pads or somewhere between years two and three.
My F15 with regular brakes needed a front brake job at 28K which was covered by UC+ (UC+ was $600 back in 2017). Surprisingly my rears were still in great shape when I turned it in with 39K. In my past experiences, I highly recommend UC+. Just FYI, the prices on BMW Maintenance Program page is for reference only. Your dealer may markup the price for Ultimate Care+ and Ultimate Care Scheduled services, but it's negotiable. "Price charts for reference only. Program and pricing subject to change. Additional fees may apply. Please see your authorized BMW Center for details."

I recommend getting ultimate care +. On a 36/12 lease you'll at least be replacing (likely) rears. Assuming you drive the miles alloted. UC+ is good insurance to cover surprises! You can get it for ~$700.
Big difference with MSport brakes is dusting. Your wheels will be black within a few days of washing car. They are very dusty. Otherwise, stopping is arguably a bit better with the blue brakes. Wear is supposedly about same under same diriving circumstances.

Thanks guys! My dealership was nice enough to honor the $700 for the 3-year/36k miles. Already had my sales guy confirm with finance that he would charge me only $700 for it. I think with M Sport brakes, I'm probably better off getting it, just in case.
