How is the traction on G30 540i with a tune?

Hi all,

I have a project on going witch is buying a 540i (coming next week) and upgrade it with a stage 2 in first place and hopefully before the end of 2020, stage 3.

I would like to know if there is here any experience with the 2 wheel drive in stage 1, 2 or 3. I would not want to spend too much money on the car if the traction is good with 450hp (stage 2) and stage 3 with pure 800 > around 540hp I hope.

My plan is to put 285mm Michelin PS4S on the rear and even 295 for stage 3 but that would involve to go for 10x20 rims instead of the 9x20. I have currently a f10 M5 ZCP with a BMS1 and traction is not bad with a good weather and I just bought some new Continental sport 6 with a 305mm, it should be much better.

Anyway, I would like to have some feedback since I see a lot of xdrive but not a lot of 2 wheel drive.

Why not just go ahead and do a M550 2019? Skip all the hassle of getting to the 460hp or 523hp on 2020?
If your buying used M550 2019 I bet you could find a deal? Just saying if you add your mods cost into monthly payment, I bet you'd be at the M550 monthly cost anyway but you'd have warranty

I am buying this used 540i for a very good price and even with all mods (stage 3), much cheaper than a used M550 with same condition, options...

Also, I attend to use the 540i as a daily and it is a lot cheaper to drive in term of insurance, fuel consumption...(at least here, in Switzerland) than a 550i knowing that I have around 80 miles per day just to go and come back from work.

I honestly also like the fact that I will put my hand on it to improve it and have already the M4 ZCP and M5 ZCP ready made for fun .

I take it you're considering a rear-wheel-drive? xDrive won't have much issues even with a stage 3 (the numbers you're quoting are conservative for the pure 800 - as long as you're not talking 540 at the wheels - I was quoted 530whp at 98ron is the good daily; the turbo can push more, but they need to test how the b58/ZF will take that) - unless you get xHP and play with the launch torque and torque delivery. With that one I got even my stage 1 435d xdrive to slip . On rear wheel drive - you're gonna struggle stock so yeah, stage 2 big struggle, stage 3 forget it. Unless you're on preped surface with R888 heated up. BMWs are not McLarens when it comes to launch. Look at how poorly M3s/M4s launch with 425-450hp. Its a mirracle to get it off the line well

I want a rear wheel drive and not a x drive. I know that x drive would solve my concern but I do believe that a rear wheel drive will give me more fun. A 540 does not even have the sport x drive so I don't want it.
I have seen that it is possible to put 7 series wheels so worse case, I will go with that option if I put a stage 3 and 305mm rear tyres. I am not worried in that case since 305 is giving me a good grip with my ZCP M5 stage 1 with around 650hp and 750nm.

Depends what you mean by good grip. If you want a decent start and not spinning in 2nd 3rd yeah. But you will simply not have the same traction as xdrive. If you already own a rear car then you're good as you know what to expect - for me, I'd not go for that as I like the feeling of being fairly secure in pushing it out of the corner . And it's my main daily shared with family. If it was a second car that maybe. But each of us prefers a different thing
