Staggered setup on Xi

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with this. I have a 330xi and Im about to run a staggered set up on it. What I don't know is if it is going to throw a code. I got the Ok from Tirerack but, they seemed iffy. I'm not overly worried about it but, I'd rather not throw a code such as the 4x4 malfunction code. I was told that the car is completely safe to drive even if the 4x4 code is throw but, they do not believe that it will be thrown. Anyone have any experience with this? I know on the x5 which has the same x-drive as my car it is completely safe to run staggered set ups, so I'm hoping and thinking I'll be ok.

BMW offers the 330xi with 162 staggered option, so it should work at least with those specified sizes.

Star Spoke (Styling 162) light-alloy wheels, 18 x 8.0 front, 18x 8.5 rear; 225/40R-18 front, 255/35R-18 rear run-flat performance tires.

Don't know your spec, but so long as front and rear overall diameter are very close it should be OK.

I'm have a set of Breyton Vision 19's that i'll be putting on hopefully this weekend. 19x9 front with 225/35/19 tires, and 19x10 rear with 265/30/19 tires. I'll let you know this weekend i hope!!

I have the optional staggered set up from BMW. And the new wheels are relatively close to those just 1.5 inches wider in the rear but, the same in the front. MDS, let me know as soon as you do it, And POST PICS!!!! Are you going to drop it? I have my H&R sport springs awaiting install.

front rolling diameter is 25.2" with 225/35/19 , rear rolling diameter is 25.3" with 265/30/19 on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires. Its a total of a 1% difference front to back and its the closest you can find. Well you can do a 235/35 YR19 front and a 275/30 YR19 rear and that will be a 25.5 rolling diameter for both. But then the tires are a bit larger and the spedo will be a bit farther off

I'm going with the first combo you mentioned. Thanks for your help. Greatly appreciated. When I tried to get this info from tirerack it was like I was speaking gibberish. I finally got somewhat of an answer. I don't know about anyone else but, I've never had good experiences with tireracks customer service.

Just get the unstaggered setup and put 12mm spacers on the back. The reason I say this is because it will be a lot easier for you to move around the wheels if ever required (e.g. moving back right to front or front left to back left... you get the idea).

the only reason that i got a staggered setup is because i bought my wheels used for $500, when if i bought them new it woudl have cost $500 per wheel!. There was no one selling a set of 4 19x9 Breyton Vision's.

I was also doing some reseach on a stagger set-up to for my soon to be aquired 330xi. I went to Bridgestone's site to get actual diameters for the stock tires measured on the stock width (162's). My findings are front 25.2" and rear 25.1".

Staggered only changes the width of the tires, not the rolling diameter.

True, staggering is a width change. But when the width is changed the diameter changes, too. We adjust the diameter with an aspect ratio change and we can get very close to the other tires' diameter, but not exact. Sometimes we'll get luck and find a tire brand and model that turns out to be the same overall diameter.

the rolling diameter really has nothing to do with the width of the wheel, its about the tire. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...Eagle+F1+GS-D3 That is a link to TireRack and the Goodyear eagle F1's Specs. Different tires have different rolling diameter based upon tire width and profile. With 2 different sized wheels you should get tires that match them, and different tires have different diameters. You just need to find 2 tires that are very close, if you have an XI. if you have a regular i then its not as much of a worry. The biggest thing to remember is that it doesnt have to do with the wheels, its the tires that go on the wheels
