Lights turn on when the car is sitting in the driveway with no one in it

The headlights on my 330i will come on by themselves quite often when the car is sitting in my driveway. I generally keep my keys right inside the door about 10' away from the car, and it seems like it often happens right when I move my keys after they have been stationary for a half hour or more.

Still experimenting on what actions cause this to happen. The doors will stay locked, but the lights turn on and then turn off again after about 20 seconds.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have experienced this with my G20. The moment the car senses the key, it illuminates, then when you get closer / touch the handle, it unlocks the car. It actually helped me at the disneyland parking lot because it lit up when I got withing proximity of the car.

Did you guys also notice the taillights never power off, if you're sitting in the vehicle, on idle, even if the headlights or DRL are switched off.

I believe it's a new safety feature for those that drive without headlights and is now mandated for MY 2021 and beyond in Canada-spec vehicles.

BMW must of implemented early and also in US-spec vehicles.

Where is your NFC key? Is it still in the glove-box?

Oh, I'm sorry; I remember I could not get the taillights to turn off, even after the headlights was manual switched off, I figure it was just a new safety thing.

I hate sitting in my car and drawing attention that I'm in there.

I have to get someone to sit in the drivers seat and try it again.

When you 1st unlock the car, they come on. Turn the ignition on and turn off the lights manually and they will go off.

Or if it is bright outside, they will just go off them self once you turn the ignition on.

Nope. NFC key is inside the house far away from the car.

And turning the lights on when the car senses the key is not supposed to be happening. Especially in the middle of the night.

Has anyone else had this happen with their car?

If my key fob in anywhere near the car, it seems to "pre arm" for my arrival by turning on the lights. If I get closer, it unlocks and unfold the mirrors. It has nothing to do with the NFC card. I now have to leave my key in the house if I want to go anywhere near the garage without "awakening" the car.

I have exactly the opposite problem !
Some days it just doesn't seem to acknowledge the key - no light no unlocking on approach.
Other days it decides "oh you're here"
Very unpredictable
Both keys
Batteries are fine

Do you strictly use the comfort access and rarely the keyfob? If you do not press a button on the keyfob every few days it's go to "sleep" and that's why upon approach it won't unlock.

Hmmm I think I do mostly use comfort access but even if I have used the buttons, 15 min later or 4 hours later it won't recognize the key on approach. I dunno

Do you swap all the time between using comfort access and keyfob? I noticed sometimes it throws it off and comfort access doesn't work if I start using keyfob more often. I just stick with comfort access now, never really use the key,

Same here. I’ve noticed my comfort access doesn’t work if I use the buttons often. So I stick to comfort access.

There are some rules regarding contactless opening and closing.

From my car manual

Have you tried just putting them further away? They are just too close that's all

Had a similar problem. Flashers turned on automatically, while I had the the comfort lock/unlock engaged. My fob was in my tool chest about 6 ft away. I figured that the fob and car signals were too close and conflicting with each other. I now will will either take the fob in the house and or disengage the comfort lock/ unlock. No problems since.

My car turns on the running lights and something under the hood spools up every so often in my garage with keys no where near it. I think it senses people around the car sometimes.
