330e charging cable question

When you go out in the morning and unplug the (basic 3 pin) cable from the car, what do you do with it?
Is it safe to leave it plugged in for use later or do you have to put it away?

I don’t use mine as I have a Pod Point installed. I’d suggest you coil it up and put it back in the provided protective bag!

Mine stays at home. It’s not something I’d like to pay to replace when my contract lease is up

I’d never leave the cable plugged in btw. Far to risky, fire hazard, insurance implications and the probability of having to replace it if you fry it.

What do you do with your Pod Point cable? It sounds like a bit of a pain in a windy cold winter morning having to coil it up and put it in the bag while you're getting soaked!

My Pod Point cable is tethered to the circular unit. The cable coils around it much like a hose pipe and the nozzle fits into a holster attached to the wall next to the unit. Takes seconds to
Remove or attach. I leave it attached and charging through the night and pre condition 20 mins before leaving. Cable cannot be detached from the car whilst the doors are locked.

Thanks. I can’t decide whether to get a charging point installed or just use an outdoor 3 pin socket. If you’re charging during the night to avail of the cheap electricity then it hardly matters that one does it in 3.5 hours and the other takes 5.5. You’ll be asleep anyhow.

I didn't hesitate to get a charger installed - you have a £500 Govt Grant towards it. Just get home, reverse in the garage and plug it in. Easy.

Maybe a similar grant isn’t available in the RoI?

You’d need your wiring/fuses checked if you were to use the 3 pin plug cable as there’s a heavy draw through these cables and using a cooker/kettle at the same time could start a small bonfire if your electrics are not up to it.

I went for a Zappi as it links with my Solar panels. When the sun is out you can der it's eco + mode to take power only from the panels. Local fitter, works perfectly.

If anyone is in Scotland - don’t forget the EST grant of £300 on top of the £500 OLEV grant. BP Chargemaster fully installed for £149 in this case 👍

So the full price of a Chargemaster point is £949?

Seems expensive against the full price of £779 for a Pod Point unit.

What does the extra expenditure get you?

Nothing I suppose. Just the one I was advised to get through work 😂
I presume the same applies to all charging units - in which case PodPoint would be free!

Perhaps the price is different in Scotland to reflect the additional grant? As you say it’d be free for you lucky b*#@*rs 😉

I would like to think that’d be against the law! But you never know!

My Chargemaster has just gone up the swanny... car is reporting "not enough power to charge" but the cable and car are fine on other charge points. And that's after 3 months. Waiting to get 5 minutes to phone them up to get it fixed. Their "customer care" email channel won't take fault calls... :-(

I would go with 7kw to future proof. Got mine from Pod Point and it was only £50 more than the 3kw.
