Sos ecu issue, wont pass deq
Hello friends, I recently picked up a 135i. I got the car and replaced the battery since it was acting funky. I got all the codes from the battery cleared. I took the car thru DEQ(emissions inspection) yesterday. The guy told me the ECU has a different VIN then what is on the car. I was reading that you can recode the ECU with the correct vin using a few different programs.
The thing I found odd was that when I plug a scantool into the car it reads as a E9X 335i... BMW told me I would likely need a new ECU. Would I still be able to code around the 335i ECU to read the correct VIN? Thanks! Last edited by iEatSand; 11-27-2019 at 11:56 AM.. Reason: grammar |

Not sure the VIN is a matter of simply coding but it could be modified by the right flash tuner. Sounds like whoever replaced or reflashed your ECU was lazy all around.

I'll start looking into everything deeper tomorrow since I have time before family comes over. Since the ecu is from a 335i, im hoping it can be reflashed to a 135i spec... AUX doesnt work, neither does the front cigarette lighter/charger. I opened up a dispute with the auction who I bought it from since a lot of the damages weren't disclosed before I purchased the car. If I can get 1-2k back from my purchase I'll be in this car the price of a prius battery. They also claimed it had heated seats, which I don't think come on the 1ers, i threw that in on the dispute too |

Many of us have heated seats, yours might not but it definitely does (did) come on them as an option.

Since you replaced the car's battery you need to drive the car to get all five(or is it six?) emission ready codes to come on. You will need to go thru a few cold starts and long drives to complete all the ready codes.
I don't think your state's DEQ(Department of Environmental Quality) test can fail your car for having another car's VIN in the DME >? Or can they ? Get yourself a cheap $20 scan tool to check for the emission ready codes.
