What 4x4 would you trade your E92 in for?

With the roads here in the UK beginning to look worse than those I’ve driven on in 3rd world countries, with pot holes the size of dustbin lids, man hole covers a foot below tarmac level and filled in ditches resembling the Grand Canyon when they sink down, I am seriously beginning to consider my next car to be a 4x4.

I love my 335d to bits, but I am beginning to worry that our great UK roads will eventually make it fall to bits!

I’m curious to know what 4x4s others would go for if you traded in your E92 Coupe?

Live in California but I know what you mean with messed up roads. If I were to trade my e90 for an awd I would get the x5.

Pre-owned Touareg V10 would take a lot of beating.....

Are we talking sensible here (as far as any 4x4 is construed as sensible). If we are then that VW Touareg V10, which I have to own upto knowing nothing about but have had a nosey on some websites, looks pretty impressive.

If we're talking totally ludicrous and not bothered about looks, massive depreciation and buying shares in an oil company then the Cayenne Turbo.

They all do seem to be pretty comfortable in all honesty.

I have an older (2003) X5 3.0D - and its a very pleasant drive in many ways, and a particularly good relaxed long distance cruiser with very low noise levels, plenty of space, handles reasonably given its size, is well built ..... and reasonably economical too.

But - its very big (wide) to park, a bit cumbersome around town, and not much use at all off-road for anything other than the mildest conditions, partly due to the tyres, and partly the restricted ground clearance.

Our Touareg V6Tdi does all of the above, but also has decent off road ability too!! The parking bit means that Mrs always take the E92 when shopping in town!!!

One of the many dubious anti-congestion methods in which to piss off drivers enough for them to take the bus, train, bike or walk....

Audi for me too....

I keep a Defender 90 for off-road - and off road - its the DBs - I have never yet failed to do any bit that any other off roader has got through, and many have tried and failed where the Defender has gone without trouble - its mostly in the tyres...... but I wouldn't exactly recommend its on road attributes

My opinion only - dont flame me

X5 - bit bling
Q7 - ostentatious
XC90 - tractor
Cayenne - no one will let you out at junctions
Q5 - dont know yet until I see one
Toureg v10 - my choice
Defender - ultimate, but not good for the daily commute

Agree - but - if the Defenders a bit battered and a LOT muddy - you'd be amazed how easily traffic parts for it

Do you mean V10 BB ? as I'm not sure they offer a V12 in the Toe Rag, but the V10 would be my choice.

I had a Cayenne S for two days as a courtesy car (bus?) and that wasn't a problem. The problem was people flashing their bloody headlights at me if I overtook them!

Oh the good old Landy. My other half has had numerous Landies over the years, mostly modded Series III's and has owned two Defenders. Great vehicle for doing exactly what it says on the tin, but main everyday road use hmmm, not so sure as has been said. He's had an ex-military lightweight and the steering on that thing - argghhh!!

Classless and an icon though. What about the new Freelander or is that too small/not taken seriously?
