Question about 340i exhaust on 328i

I researched that a lot of people buy the 335i/340i back box and fit to a 328i.

I purchased a 340i exhaust system and cut the rear box off it.

However, my local bmw specialist garage said they can't do it as the pipe is too flat? They apparently have fitted plenty to the diesels as they are more rounded. Apparently there is sleeve they used and it won't fit this shape of pipe.

Pics show the pipe shape and where I cut it from the full exhaust.

am confused. Can this be fitted or have I wasted my money on this exhaust?

According to the picture you posted, the exhaust was cut on the wrong area.... look closely you should see a dimple 3" to 4" from where its cut. That were should be cut

Then look at your 328i exhaust should have the same dipple... I just hope you haven't cut it yet on the wrong spot or else you need some exhaust shop to install this by welding.

Good luck

Where about a roughly in my pic of the full exhaust system. Yes it's already cut. Based on the advice of the garage. Most exhausts for sale in UK are cut just after the box? So I left more.

Look for that dimple, it should be on the more rounded section of the pipe. Google m performance muffler and you will see the difference between the cut ..
How far from the box muffler.

I cut it where the red circle was. I assume it's more rounded by the middle silencer box.

here is an example....1st image

and I circle on your image where the cut should have been... 2nd image

also..the 340i exhaust pipe diameter is bigger than the 328i.

I have left it quite long then? So I just need to trim it back some more?

Yes correct trim it some more.... there is a dimple around there...look for it and that where it should be cut. Then you could use an exhaust clamp to connect them.

Hi. Any updates on how this exhaust fitting went? Did the 340i muffler go onto your 328i as planned?

I put a 335 muffler on my 328 and it wasn't a direct bolt on. My shop had to weld it together as the diameter is different on the mid pipe. The 328 was 3"OD and the 335 was 3.125" OD. Also be careful at which angle you cut the mid pipe, that could also mean you have to weld it.
