Stage 2 turbos: Pure, Vargas, Steam, Big Boost???

Pure -> i think this is one has the largest customer base, great customer support, but have been hearing about turbo blades breaking and failing.

Vargas -> similar setup to Pure but perhaps a little less well known

Steam -> less well known but heard in can produce +25HP than Pure or Vargas stage 2 setup

Bigboost -> if you want to go BIG as the name suggest, 600whp+, but not ideal for me since you need to change internals.

Was thinking about getting Pure St2 before I heard about blades failing/breaking, customer support is good and you can get heavy discount on the next purchase but i live in the southern hemisphere so might not be ideal for me. Dont wanna risk breaking parts whirring inside the engine bay and damaging others too...

Any thoughts?

I have yet to see ONE log of a PWG car running a big turbo without JB4 - except my own.

I have done 30 revisions on my custom tune until now and we are not there yet. Seems that also MHD (Pureboost) has given up on making a big turbo OTS work. Last BETA-revision I got from them was #29.

Think carefully how much hassle you are willing to get into!

30 revisions is crazy!

What kind of Turbo do you use?

I'm now subscribed to PTF BM3 and they have an OTS map for upgraded turbo called the Stage 2H. Not sure how PTF defines "upgraded turbo" cos there's a wild range for that, i guess 2H is a baseline for upgraded turbo and if you are looking for something particular you'll need to ask for custom map...

I know PTF have done maps paired with JB4s for B58s for crazy powers (800whp+) with a BigBoost turbo (6564). I'm not even sure how BM3 and JB4 can coexist...

I'll I want right now is a car that can run sub 12 on 402 (car runs 12.6 on stock turbo). No meth kit, no race fuel, no fuel system upgrade, but I might consider port injection and race fuel in the future.

Other than that you are right, too much hassle...

Running Pure Stage2. I was running BM3 2H before and that map was overboosting to 25-26 psi which I was too scared to use. Hope it has gotten better since. Back in 2017 I was running BM3+JB4 - good power, but really unstable and bad drivability.

So I'm I correct that all those map revisions are to find the balance between power and driveability?

Stupid question, how do you know the 2H was running 25-26psi? Did you install a boost gauge?

It seems dangerous to put 25-26psi as an OTS map...was expecting 21psi or something a little more conservative...

I'm planning to not miss the Black Friday, I've emailed Pure 3 days ago without response (was hoping for their great customer service). So I'll just post my questions here hopefully some of you can help.

I got 335i PWG with upgraded downpipe, FMIC, high flow intake (MST), and BM3 st2.

a. Can I stick a PS2 without upgrading the fuel system? Or is it recommended that I upgrade the fuel system too? What is the minimum upgrade?

b. it will potentially be un-economical for me to send back the turbo core given the shipping distance to the US. How to tackle this issue? Do I just pay additional $500 instead?

c. Does the Black Friday 15% discount apply to the entirety of the package chosen or just the turbo? I definitely get the high flow inlet.

d. what is the difference between F30 high flow inlet Option 1 and 2?

e. I guess I'll upgrade to BM3 St2H. Or is it recommended to get a custom tune?

PS2 i running great on stock map and stock fuel system up to 17psi

Yes

I would assume it only apply to the products (shipping and core charge excluded)

On is plug and play. The other you must chop up your own inlet

e. I guess I'll upgrade to BM3 St2H. Or is it recommended to get a custom tune?
Custom tune is a waste of money without upgraded fuel system

I finally ordered the PS2, only because there are more discussions about the PS2 than the BB - though frankly I'm quite interested in BB but not enough time to understand before Black Friday ends. Oh well...

I ordered the XDI-35 too...so yeah, really put a dent on my wallet...
