is GEICO safe?
I got into an accident couple days ago and no body/paint damage but the wheels, alignments, brakes. Geico towed my car from from my rear instead of putting my car onto the truck, I remember reading the manual that 3series can be only put on the truck to get towed, I even told the towing guy, but he said they do ths to bmw all the time and if anything Geico will be responsible.
My Insurance has $500 deductible, they Geico guy said that I will only have to pay the $500, but I thought wheels (cosmetic) is covered by Geico.... Can someone explain this? Also, I am just a little worried that where Geico will take my car to to get it repaired and will it be OEM pieces? Thanks! |

Not sure what you mean regarding the wheels and the OEM pieces. Regarding the tow, I would just get it checked out and make sure you log it with Geico.

If you have full coverage insurance, they will pay for any damages to your car, including the wheels. all you have to pay for out of your pocket is the $500 deductable. If you're not sure about the shop, just ask them if they use OEM parts or ask your Geico agent.

I dunno how they handle their own customers, but in all my dealings with Geico after their customers have hit me, they have been stubborn as hell and no help at all.

You mean you didn't tell them where to take the car? Your insurance should pay for repairs at a shop of your choosing. Insurance that only pays for repairs at Bob's Junkyard Parts Emporium isn't really worth carrying.

What you need to look out for is this. Geico is notorious for using salvagable parts from junked cars. It's one of the ways they are able to keep premiums low, and they will be able to buy these parts at about 50-75% less than what it would cost from the dealers.

I have never had a problem with Geico, and the towing company is most likely not part of Geico its just a contractor. Geico (at least in my area) does not have its own tow trucks.
The tow truck driver is an ass, and you should have refused the tow that way, you might not have any damage, but BMW's should be flat bedded and that's all. He just didn't want to lose the job if they had to call out another truck. As for your coverage, if you have comprehensive (which on a new car I doubt that you dont have it), Geico will over every single part that is damaged in an accident. You pay your $500 and thats it, unless its the other persons fault (which happened to me) and Geico will go after the other carrier for your deductible back.

You didnt explain what happened in the accident? What is wrong with the wheels? If they were messed up from the accident yes you will get new wheels.

Most vehicle financers (at least around here) require that you carry collision and comprehensive with at most a $500 deductible to protect their collateral. Many states require motorists to carry liability insurance. As for repairs, you should be able to take (or send) your car to any shop you want to and have them send the bill to your insurance carrier referencing your claim number. Each carrier has their own rules regarding claim process/procedure but the general gist is all the same. Many shops will split-bill for upgrades beyond OEM equipment: for example, people who upgrade to M-Sport bumpers after a collision usually have the shop bill insurance for the cost to replace the stock bumpers and bill the customer separately for the difference in cost for the upgrade. Sounds like this is a great opportunity to ask your uncle to explain how insured repairs work |

I ono what the Geico rep told you but YOU have the right to chose the towing company and YOU have the right to chose the Body shop of your choice. After my accident, i had to meet with my adjuster at a local body shop that they are "in relation" with to get an estimate, but after that he wrote me a check and told me I could take it anywhere I wanted, of course I took it to the shop with all the Audi's, BMW's, and Mercs, some VW's and lots and lots of Porsche's including a 911 TT .. As for the salvaged parts, if you take it to the right shop, they will get you brand new everything.. If the wheels were damaged during the accident, you should be able to get new ones as well... And btw, our cars can either be towed on a flatbed or tugged from the rear wheel.. So, the way he did it was right, just that if you had a front lip kit, it might have been scratched, or wrose broken, thats why people prefer flatbed.. The $500 deductable is your policy... You have to pay that no Matter what.

My dad was the one that dealt with the towing and the Geico rep because it was better to park the car at my fathers to get towed. I dont know what kind of paper he signed when the towing guy came... All I know is that the car is being repaired at the moment, Is it too late to tell the shop that I want to split the bill and upgrade the wheel? NOTE: cars been at the shop for 1 1/2 day.

Only the shop can tell you that. If they already ordered your parts they'll probably tell you to get bent, but if you're on friendly terms they might be able to work something out.
