Build quality of G20s assembled in San Luis Potosi?
If you own, or have at least driven, an SLP-built G20, chime in. I am curious about the build quality.

I've driven G20s built in Mexico twice and they seem fine. I have no doubt in my mind that the factory produces a good vehicle. Having said that, I ordered mine from Germany because, well, if I'm spending this much on a new car, I'd rather get it built in its home country. It's not like there's even a discount for choosing a Mexican-built 3 over a German-built one so that's my $.02.

Mexican built 3 series will have:
VIN starts with "3MW" VIN 7th character will be "J" Both of these are important because I heard that early production cars from SLP still had WBA in first 3 characters of VIN. But 7th character will always be J, at least for now.

My 330i is built in Mexico and has been absolutely problem free. No rattles either. And there are lots of potholes and broken roads and even non-existent roads where I’m at. Car’s been silent so far.

No issues with the MX models at all. My current G20 supply is about 50/50 mix

I think I read that in this forum (but I could be wrong) that for the US market, starting with MY2021, only the M340i xDrive will be built in Germany while the M340i sDrive and all 330i will be built in Mexico.
Please correct me if that's not right. |

I can’t say with certainty, but I rather doubt that’s correct. I think it’s much more likely BMW will continue to produce North American 330i’s in both Germany and Mexico. That’s what they did when the 3er was produced in South Africa. If they totally dropped the North American 330i from German production they would kill Americans being able to take European Delivery of that model, which will outpace M340i production by roughly 3:1.
