What does the diamond button on the key fob do?

Does anyone have any experience with the diamond button on the key fob and what it is supposed to do?

The manual (attached) is very brief. It describes a "Headlight courtesy delay feature", but exactly what this function does is very unclear. The text reads, "If the high-beam headlights are activated with standby state switched on, the low-beam headlights remain on for a of time". Even assuming that is supposed to be "... for a period of time", it still doesn't sufficiently explain what this feature is.

The description implies it is only active when the high-beam headlights were on, and only after the car has just been switched off. However, the button seems to do something when the car is locked. Sometimes the interior lights turn on. Sometimes the headlights turn on. It is quite variable and difficult to replicate.

What are others experiences? Has anyone discovered the true function of this button?

It is a shame that it can't be programmed, like to open the windows / sunroof or to turn on the heating etc!

Mine has a double function (330e in Belgium): activate home lights or activate climate control. I can choose the default function under car settings.

In my car, it turns the headlights on for a brief period. Great for locating your car at night in a large lot or for lighting the way to your front door.

Go into idrive settings, exterior light settings, make sure “Home lights” is not set on 0 seconds.

I’ve set mine to 10secs so when I hold diamond button on key, it now turns headlights on for 10secs (G20 330i).

Hope this helps

Ummm. Where is the diamond button on the key fob? Sad that the NA cars don't have it.

Check out picture of post#39 of this G30 thread.

US spec G20 comes standard with alarm, so our fobs come with panic button.

Thank you very much for the link. I haven't seen that button before and your explanation makes sense!
