Remap Recommendations

Hi All

I know there are may threads/posts regarding remaps etc but this being a very active forum, I thought I'd ask my questions and seek advice here...

I've recently purchased a 2016 F06 GC (640d). I have been looking to get it tuned.

My understanding was that most tuning nowadays is done via the OBD port in the car and there is no need to take the ECU out. Having contacted a company (3 letters, first one beginning with D..), they have advised that the proper way to tune the car is to take the ECU and do it this way. They said that the OBD route is still an option but they recommend the ECU out way.

Just wanted to know what other's tuning experience was and if someone can recommend any other companies to tune the N57D30 lump.

I'm not really keen on the ECU out way. I think it's too risky compared to OBD way.

I look forward to your responses.

Cheers

I would call Paul at Evolve in Luton, they will give you a discount and can do this remotely.

Garage List
If you want an off the shelf map, Simon @ Emaps can come to you and do it. He'll be about £350.

If you want it rolling roaded, and tweaked to suit your specific car, I'd go to Jason @ BW Chiptune - probably about £450

No idea where you're based though.....Jason is in Hayes, Simon is midlands based but travels.

More than happy with my Celtic Tuning map, £320 quid and free to reapply if wiped. They have approved resellers all over the country.

Also Simon @ emaps is very good, he did my old E92.

Was that via OBD?

What figures did you get after the map (BHP and NM)

Cheers

Yes it was via OBD. I didn't get a before and after just the map but it is substantially more powerful. They quote 400bhp and 570lb ft tho I take it with a pinch of salt, but happy even if its 380 ish. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 400 tho as it really feels that much more than stock. When it got wiped I thought I had a 320d!

Durham remaps for me as I wanted something specific to my car and not a generic map.

They're known for having a very over enthusiastic dyno. Ran it on an independent dyno since?

Yeah I've heard that to be fair. Haven't Dynode it since but the standard figure given was 316 which sounds right so not sure? Either way it's bloody quick now

Have it done via OBD.................recently self installed the Evolve-R map on my 2018 335d F31 xDrive with my laptop. Very easy, no issues and very pleased with the results. Evolve were great to deal with. I can also revert to stock in minutes any time I choose.

Previously had a remap installed on a 535d MSport LCI by Simon at E-maps and did over 100k with that on the car with no issues at all............and again great guy to deal with.

Use reputable tuners as these cars are very expensive to repair if its not done correctly. Avoid tuning boxes.
