JBS Stage 1?

Hi Folks,
I have a 2016 328 that I purchased 3 months ago. I just came across jbs stage1 tuning that can be done easily (I am assuming easily - from what I have been reading). Wanted to get your expert opinion on if its worth doing this, and if there will be any noticeable increase in power. This is a daily commuter car for my wife and I, and am hoping for something that will give a little boost but not make the ride (shift etc) bad. Also, does this affect warranty?, and add risk to the engine? Are there any other mods that you guys would recommend ? Thank you for your help and inputs!

I wouldn't suggest JB4, especially on a daily driver. It's rough and doesn't seem to "kick in" until 3000 rpm.

I'd definitely recommend bootmod3, if anything, but seeing you're in warranty I would only do it if your dealer was cool. It's not necessarily easy to hide during routine maintenance.

What you are considering is a great idea. I bought a JB Stage1 tuner for the same reasons for the daily driver that my wife and I share. Our car used came with an expensive BMW MPPK tune. The JB Stage1 actually provided much more power and torque while still running smooth and reliable. The BMW engines are over engineered so it's easy to get more power out of them without sacrificing reliability. Regular oil changes are the key to that.

Originally I had considered a $200 JB+ but a couple guys who I respect warned me that the JB+ only monitors one engine sensor so it can make the engine ride rougher at times. The JB Stage1 monitors two engine sensors so it's powerful but still smooth. Plus it's less expensive than most other tune options. The JB Stage1 is simple to install. It only takes 5 minutes to remove so no issues if you drop it at a dealer for maintenance or warranty service.

I'm actually selling our JB Stage1 since I got into much more expensive modifications on our car. It's their newest JB Stage1 model that works on many BMW cars. When it's plugged in it automatically senses which engine your car has. I paid over $400 for it including the special cable that allows you to make boost adjustments if you like. I never ended up using it since the JB Stage1 worked so well out of the box. I'm asking $249 including shipping.

As you go, there are many improvements that you can make to your car just by making educated choices when maintenance is needed. There are better air filters, brake pads, stainless brake lines, different model and size tires, etc.

You can also make simple coding changes to many convenience features on your car right from the BimmerCode app on your phone to a Bluetooth OBD2 module that you plugin under your dash. Pretty cool easy stuff. I attached a couple of photos. Enjoy your new BMW!

It made a huge difference on my 320I but this model is factory neutered with a max stock psi of ~8psi (plus I adjusted mine to +4.5 psi). Your mileage may vary but the price that John is selling his for is a bargain.

I used the dinan sport tune on my 328 and the difference at +3 psi was definitely there. With 93 octane you can go +4 psi and you’ll never want to take it off.

I can’t speak to JBS or JB+ but I read they can be jerky. I didn’t experience this with dinan sport.

Thanks for the heads up. iPhone Bimmerpost app doesn't show me that I'm out of space. I'll log on via laptop tomorrow and clear it

I had a BMS Stage 1 tune on my 228 N20 for almost 50K miles. I've had the same one on my F31 328 N20 for almost 20K miles. I have never had an issue with it. The only other engine mod I've also had for the same amount of time is the aFe drop-in air filter. Do it. Especially if you can find one cheap.

Save up for the jb stage 1.
That $249 shipped is a great price.

I’m either doing bootmod3 or MG stage 1 once I sell my JB+

Dealer has nothing to do with a big warranty claim if the ecu is flashed. It'll be detected and you can't undo it.

If that's interesting, I'd recommend a JB4.

I just went through the process of adding it to my cart and there is no discount, plus the BF2019 code did not work. Says this on their FB page (copied):

Black Friday / Cyber Monday event kicks off tonight at midnight!

Use code BF2019 to get 15% off bootmod3 software, hardware WiFi/USB OBD agents and our new swag!
