Adaptive Suspension

I am considering the adaptive suspension, can anyone confirm whether it does actually make the car more comfortable in the comfort setting? On longer drives I would like the car to have a softer ride.

I didn’t rush in to respond as I hoped someone who had more knowledge would respond. However as no one has responded here is my two pence worth.

I looked at this when buying my car in August. What I read led me to believe that the adaptive suspension route was the way to go for this car. I took a test drive in a car with adaptive suspension and found the ride to be acceptable (good). I didn’t do a back to back with a non adaptive suspension car.

I’ve had the car for just over two weeks and I’m extremely happy with what I have.. 19” wheels with performance tyres and adaptive suspension.

From what I've read on G20s adaptive is a really good idea with 19+ wheels, with 18s think it will depend on whether you have msport suspension or standard...? I've ordered a 330e msport with plus pack (so adaptive and 19s).

Previously I had an f30 320d msport with 19s and adaptive and ride was much better than 19s without (my colleague had one without so we did a comparison!).

Currently I have an f30 330e at the moment with standard suspension and 18s and ride is fine in that.

Adaptive is well worth having, it's even pretty comfortable in Sport mode. I tried a 320d M Sport on standard 18" wheels with non-RFT tyres and found it uncomfortable. No issues with my 330e on 19" M Sport+ wheels. It's not a Merc S-Class but generally pretty good :-)

Point to note is that the standard 330e M Sport doesn't have M Sport suspension. Blackers has commented that his ride/handling balance isn't bad. It's a very subjective topic though :-)

I find the adaptive suspension very useful when driving on varied road conditions. e.g. from urban to suburban to twisty roads to motorways. The suspension does change to suit and saves the fumbling for switching from comfort to sport. And with the paddles I find switching to sport mode on the motorway is now not so frequent.

When we initially road tested a 330i with 19” wheels my Wife who has a back problem said without hesitation that the ride was more comfortable that our F30 on 18” wheels.

It sealed the deal! I placed the order on return to the Main Dealer!

Go for adaptive, it is not expensive and well worth it, you will always ask "how would the car behave with adaptive" and eventually regret it if you don't choose it. For me was a no brainer, since I had several cars with and without, and always end up thinking that the adaptive suspension is way better, even if the car is not a daily.
