Got the new baby home.
My 335i isn't too jealous and is sharing the garage.

You suck.. . Nice ride. I still think the 335i is better... blah... blah... blah. (NOT!)
I loved the sound of the new M3's I saw at my last track day. That V8 is stellar.

I still love my 335i. I think the 335i is by far a better daily driver. Biggest thing I miss is the torque, especially when you can't rev 5500 rpm.
But the car feels solid. Knock on wood zero issues yet. Ramos & Satakal, need to figure out more track days together. Dr. Doomer: I can't wait to let it loose and hear the engine, under 5k car is very relaxing. The beast needs to be unleashed. Madman: But of course!

Nice car congrats!
Couple of questions if you don't mind: - What are your thoughts on the durability of the DCT? - Did you get EDC? Day dreaming about my next car and trying to collect tech on the m3 in the meantime! |

Nick: In theory the transmission should be solid as a rock. In reality who knows, I'm debating getting the extended warranty. Getting quotes of 3k-5k, not sure if its worth it. On the street I'm sure it'll be fine. Track, few issues, people are waiting for a software update in september. Few long threads on M3post. The car does have EDC, part of the tech package. Awesome! I've played around with taking the same turn near my house fairly hard, soft mode some sway but the suspension still great, normal tough to tell how the active suspension is working, sport/stiff setting zero sway, you feel everything on the road. If ou like the stock/stiff all the time don't bother, but I give people rides, wife takes the car to work, etc, the feature becomes priceless. The car is really a Jeckyl and Hyde. Ramos: Going to drive the 335i to a few more events, didn't think I'd say it, the car feels too nice. Anyway, I'm sure after a few months and couple door dings/scratches it'll be ready for a few days. BUT, I'm not taking the 19" rims, need t find some 18s and get some track tires.

Maybe you can answer the question as no one else knows. What are the carpeted protrusions under the front spoiler lip. They block the air flow and will surely rip off on a concrete parking bumper. Maybe this is an upgrade to the typical plastic strip, or they house cabling/plumbing. |

I hope by the time I am ready for a M3 they will still offer the conventional dampers and manual transmission. My gut feel says all of this new tech will not age well in a car that sees heavy track use. I wonder if it will go the way of porsche ceramic brakes, where heavy users swap them out for the 'downgrade' conventional stuff |

Huh, I wasn't aware that the PCCB couldn't handle track use. Why is that? |

Right now who knows, only planning a few track days per year on either of my cars. Have a feeling with the EDC, and DCT it'll make aggressive track use cost prohibitive also. Changing a clutch in a MT relatively cheap and easy. On the DCT can it even be done? In the future, a MT dedicated car will probably be in the picture once I figure out: a) How serious I want to be with all this. b) Save enough money and have enough time to make it practical. Regarding the ceramic brakes, aren't they also extremely expensive to replace?

Check out this thread.. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/g...pose-last.html The OP has worn out a set of rotors in 8,500 miles/15 track days. and the cost per rotor is apparently $5000. In post 18 someone mentions a swap to iron rotors due to excessive operating cost and track wear of the ceramic rotors Seems to me like the conventional iron rotors get the job done just as well at much lower cost and complexity (IMHO, same deal with DCT gearboxes and magnetic controlled suspensions...) |
