Sytner Birmingham closing next week

Just a heads up to anybody who might not be aware. I bought my pre-reg F30 from this dealership 30 months ago. I received this e-mail today:-

The Sytner Group have represented the BMW Brand in the centre of Birmingham since 2002. Having recently relocated our Sutton Coldfield operation to the Flagship site at Tamworth Retail Park, we have had to reconsider how we best serve the Birmingham community with the BMW Brand.

We are writing to inform you that we have taken the difficult decision to close the BMW Centre in Birmingham from Thursday 12th September. All departments will continue to operate as usual until 6.00pm on this date.

Having operated from this location for a number of years, this decision has not been taken lightly. We are, as you can imagine, working hard to ensure that we retain as many of our colleagues as possible in this difficult period. We also want to ensure that our customers have an alternative facility to use for all future BMW Sales and Aftersales requirements.

Whilst the Birmingham Retailer is closing, we would like to reassure you that you will find alternative Sytner Centres offering the same outstanding level of service that you have previously enjoyed close by. Over recent years, we have made significant investments in all of our surrounding BMW Dealerships and now have four state of the art facilities which we hope that you will use.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for using Sytner Birmingham BMW and apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause.

BMW/MINI Divisional Managing Director
Sytner Group

I’m sure the Birmingham site will have relatively high overheads when compared with some of their out of town locations and made it a prime candidate for the chop. Do we think this is just another example of the downturn in the motor industry or a specific issue with this dealership/location?

has to be said, it was a completely impractical location - the AUC especially so.

Between Tamworth for north Birmingham and Solihull for south, the center location was already at risk.

Shame for the staff.

They sent me a survey asking what I thought after they had my car all day and fixed nothing. I told them exactly what I thought.

They never got in touch.

The only thing Sytner is outstanding at is not fixing what it went in for.

I'd suspect, that if the Sytner group owns the site, it will be sold for millions for redevelopment. Tamworth is a great site, but parking a bit of a nightmare. Still wouldn't take my car there.

I had appalling service at Sytner Coventry when buying my first BMW so much so I walked out half way through the process. Never set foot in there or another Sytner since.

I've bought several cars from Sytner Coventry and never had anything but brilliant service

Bought Mrs Kal’s 140 from Bham and both my 3s plus her first 1 from Sytner’s Oldbury plus servicing from there. Couldn’t fault any dealings with them ever.

Presume it’s a down turn in sales, increasing costs , dare say the dreaded congestion rip off looming could have caused a few potential issues as did the never ending road works in Bham at the moment.

Potentially one of many victims in Bham due to the council’s war on the motorist perhaps
