mirrors

Hi all... Coming from a '15 x5, have a new one g05 in this week @ the dealer.

So I have been looking around at what is available for this.. particularly with regard to coding and driving safety. on my '15 I had replaced the side mirrors with the euro spec ones, with the convex ends. Woould love to do this with the new model.

Have been looking online, and most of the companies that sell these, and even ebay sellers, only have models with dim/heat/warning on the LH mirror. the RH mirror only had heat and warning, with no dimming connection. A few of the people I have reached out to have said that this is a particularity of the g05.. that there is no dimming on the RH mirror.

Can anybody who has one of the newer models chime in on this? do you have all three functions on both mirrors? I can figure out why they would make them heat and warning, but not dimming on the passenger side....

thanks

Steve

No dimming on passenger side here in EU.

Apparently safety related to avoid overseeing traffic (bicyclists) to the right of the car when turning right due to dimmed mirror...

BMW has been removing passenger side auto dim mirrors across multiple model platforms for the last couple of years. So yes, it is now normal/common to have only the interior rear view mirror and driver's exterior side mirror auto-dim.

From: https://www.bimmerfest.com/news/9162...m-2017-models/

BMW is stripping the automatic dimming passenger mirror feature from many 2017 models. BMW did not justify why the feature is being removed for 2017 or if there was going to be a price adjustment for Option Code 430.

The automatic dimming function will continue to be operational on the driver’s side mirror and rear view mirror.

Affected 2017 BMW Models

F22 (2-Series Coupe) from March 2016 production

It sucks that the passenger mirror doesn't dim anymore...but on the bright side...those of us that like to upgrade to the wide angle mirrors...will be able to save a few $$$ since the EC (auto-dim) feature jacks up the price of the mirror.

Would you be able to fit a UK spec RH mirror or have Bmw done something crafty to prevent that?

I'm also disapointed about the passenger mirror not dimming. I have that on my F25 and it's really necessary, otherwise, your other mirrors are all nice and dimmed, and your vision is STILL blinded making the dimming other mirrors pretty much useless in my view.

bluetriangle you got a great idea there -- for our UK cars, buy a continent driver side mirror?!?

Good first thought (idea)...but the problem you'll probably run into that will make it slightly more difficult than a mirror swap...is the wiring.

The EC (auto dim) mirrors will have a wiring harness that sends data to it from the interior rear view mirror. I bet BMW hasn't run the wiring harness to the passenger side mirror that would carry auto dimming data to it.

You can probably find some old threads on the list of BMW models above that revealed the models that no longer had passenger side dimming mirrors. I recall reading (I believe it was an X3 or X4 thread) where they did remove the mirror to check the wiring harness...and the pass/mirror had the wiring for heat...but not for dimming.

I can't seem to find any instructions or method to replace the mirrors themselves on the G05, I have the original OEM Euro-spec mirrors but didn't want to dive in until I had some guidance.

Does anyone know how or know where I can get some more info?

Have you tried the TIS website (BMW's Technical Information System)? If not, click the following link, then type the last 7 digits of your VIN, then type a good keyword or phrase into the search box and see what results you get (like remove side mirror). Or you could go to the wiring and other sections and search manually.
