Why are car windows in parking lots always fully closed?

Where I live, the outside temperature is not usually too hot, humid or polluted, but the sun can warm the car to an undesirable temperature, so I often leave the driver's and front passenger's windows open by a few inches. No one else seems to do this. Why not?

Let's start with your first guess and we will take it from there

lol doesn't it rain a lot in Oregon?

Other than the obvious rain.. Bird droppings, theft/people trying to reach in etc... All seem to be some pretty good reasons not to leave the windows down unattended just to save a few degrees lol.

If you're concerned about the temperature inside the car maybe remotely activating the ventilation (via connected app on the phone) can help. Otherwise, other have listed enough good reasons why people don't leave the windows on their cars open.

When the sun is hot in Oregon, it is not humid and it isn't going to rain, perhaps for months. In the western part of the state, where most of the population lives, it isn't particularly dusty. I don't see how leaving the windows a couple of inches down make the car more attractive to thieves, homeless people or vandals.

In fact, while never having owned a convertible, I drive around at city speeds with my window open quite often. When driving faster, I often turn off (i.e., don't turn on) the air conditioning, as the outside air is often close enough to a good temperature coming through the vents. (With my house in the summer. I open the windows in the late evening and close them mid-morning if I'm home or when I leave for the day, running the air conditioner only a few hours a day in only a few months.) In other words, I like fresh air.

I leave mine cracked and put the sun shade on the front, seems to help a lot and the interior will stay in better condition with out all the heat, my friend leaves the top off his Jeep in the nice weather all the time? so you do you.

Do you fart a lot in your car? If so, it’s understandable why one would want to crack the windows a little bit.

The question is valid, what I'm not sure about is why X3 owners would have the answer. Out of all the car owners, we, the wise X3 owners, hold they key to such deep questions as "why don't more people open their car windows on hot days?".

Might as well have asked us "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?" or "what's the meaning of life?".

I mean even with all the windows up you wouldn't want to leave the car outside all day when it rains. Bad for the car. Watch out for those phantom door dings too.

I leave mine closed to avoid all the dust getting in. To avoid getting inside an oven, I hold down the unlock button on my key fob to roll the windows down while I’m walking towards my car. That way all the hot air clears our before getting in, and no dust.

I usually vent with the moon roof if I'm parking out in the hot sun.

My dad always leaves the windows cracked at home in the garage. So that is a lot safer, than on the street or in a parking lot somewhere. But for the life of me I cant understand why anyone would do that anywhere? All dust, dirt, outdoor smells get in at their own discretion.
