Downpipe question

Hi guys

I recently acquired a new 2019 430i.

Running BM3 stage 1 right now but considering installing an ER DP and going stage 2 OTS map.

I am aware that this will usually void my warranty, and in case of any engine issues, dealer will not cover.

My question: if I change the downpipe and have CEL removed through BM3, will they notice the change when going for regular Service?

I believe they will only notice if they have a reason to read the DME. But I have been told to flash back to stock and relock the DME before going in for service. I am also out of warranty at this point so it doesn’t effect me to much.

You flashed the DME, your warranty is already voided.

Regular service shouldn't be affected. Now if you have to replace your transmission or turbo then they will check your DME and see that the car was tuned regardless of flashing back to stock. Regular service is going to be fine, but your warranty is already voided anyway

EDIT: also if you're running stage two you'll want to look into an intercooler and charge pipe upgrade. Not sure if you have them already but those are necessary for stage 2

I believe he has the b48 with an A2W intercooler, so the intercooler upgrade isn't necessary.

Thanks for the clarifications.

Indeed I am aware that the warranty is already void by the books.

But that said, only in the case where my turbo or engine failed for xxx reasons, and they're going to dig deep on what happened.

I also don't want to make it obvious that I've flashed etc. Thus my question of would they notice the DP on regular service.

I hold a pretty good relationship with my dealer here so for minor issues where I can claim warranty, I can slide my way through.

About stage 2: I've posted on another thread earlier asking clarification.

I've read that the B48 doesn't need or have(?) a FMIC, and on stock it will be fine. And, that CP issues have rarely been reported on B48 engine or even on n20/26, it was very specific to the N55.

That said, the CP is on my bucket list, but I am not considering it as "must have" for stage 2, perhaps in 2-3 months time.

They probably would not even notice it

What sort of figures are you getting from stage 1 for a 430i?

Thinking of pulling the trigger on BM3.

Mike,
Did you mean to use "%"? Maybe you did.
I'm just used to reading gains represented as like +14hp (like in JB4 literature)
+14% on say a 250hp engine would be +35hp. Please clarify. The use of % just has me confused. Thanks.

He did intend to use %. This is how PTF represents their tunes. It's a bit more accurate and honest as each n20, n55, s55 etc will vary slightly. Dyno's will also vary. To give a definitive number like "+35hp" would be a bit disingenuous.

Ok, thanks! That makes sense. I just hadn't read the BM3 marketing stuff for a while, just been referring to the installation manual.
Saw your screen name and was expecting a free recipe with every piece of advice given. Maybe some Drag Strip Chili, smokey with asphalt-thick strips of bacon and enough beans & beer to clear out a race prep garage on a hot summer night!

That is an odd bump right before redline.

Indeed ... Bad Dyno run, the guy didn't pull to neutral and upshifted.

I'm going for a new run this weekend, and hopefully a much better one, and smoother.

Will also do stock vs stage 1 etc.

Apologies for that.
