Navigation Alternative Routes

When I am on the open road and start the engine for a given day, I will often see alternative routes pop up. I have looked at this on occasion, but unless there is a warning about a significant delay I stay with the route chosen by the navigation.

However, there are times when I want an alternative route. Looking at tomorrow’s run, I went to the BMW Connected app, selected destinations, input an address, but I cannot see how to forge the route I want. Once in the vehicle, I do not remember finding a way to make these kinds of adjustments prior to starting a trip. (I suppose this would be easy using Google Maps, but I do not use Car Play.)

Tomorrow I will be driving on I-44 from MO to OK. Going through Tulsa, I want off I-44 to go with the Creek Turnpike (364). Nav does not like this because it adds a few miles in the wrong direction, but I view it as not only faster but much safer way to get through Tulsa.

Is there a way to resolve this prior to take-off? BTW, when going last week from OK to MO once I got into MO I got a notice that OK maps had been updated. That was a surprise.

Yes, you can modify a route fairly easy. For the details I'll refer you to the Nav manual, but as an outline, after setting an initial destination and starting navigation, you then select another destination and the system will ask if you want it to be an additional destination or a different one. The first option adds it to the previously specified destination while the latter option replaces the previously specified destination.

You can do this multiple times creating a multiple way point route. Also, you can then save this to your list of "Trips" for later recall (you can have up to 30 saved Trips).

You can also manage/change the order of way points, even if the Trip navigation is in process.

This is also the way I do it on my TomTom. If I want to go from A to D but don't like the way TomTom plans the route, I program the number of routes I need to in order to go the way I want, for example:

A to B, then B to C, and finally C to D. I usually do this to avoid certain interstates or cities. You just give a name to each of your programmed routes so you can recognize them when the time comes.
