Siri Eyes Free Permanently Deactivated

BMW issued a bulletin to say that Siri Eyes Free is permanently deactivated. Ask your dealer to look up bulletin B84 11 19.

It's disappointing that you get a car to have a feature removed from it. I used this all the time and am not happy.

Is this where you hold down the talk button to activate Siri? If so, that is really lame.

WTF, I don't care for CarPlay but Siri Eyes Free is incredibly useful. While BMW own assistant is pretty good, having both as options was welcome. This is major regression.

Par for course for equally arrogant Apple and BMW. They weren't seeing enough CarPlay adoption, so the obvious reason for that is stupid customers that will have to be force-fed — can't have us be distracted from the master plan.

Seriously. Take away CarPlay and I wouldn't blink. This was much more useful

In all my previous bmws I was much happier with my phone set up. Texts came on the screen and it showed the sender. I could reply with Siri eyes free

Now texts show unknown sender and I have to scream hey Siri at my phone until it hears me. Bmw seems to be taking steps back in their phone integration

Explain to me why Carplay doesn't just come with the car like other companies? Its basically in your iPhone, Carplay is just integration always the money grab everyone is so greedy.

I would prefer to pay yearly for BMW ConnectedDrive Apps, like there used to be with apps like Spotify, along with allowing Siri Eyes Free, than for CarPlay which I hate.

I'm not an IOS user, but does Siri Eyes work better than the Idrive voice?

I ask bc I use my Idrive voice ALOT and got to the point of rarely having issues with it... it was a big learning curve since I was used to Alexa devices..... LOL

Perhaps I had been using it wrong but I couldn't get iDrive to send text messages, I had to use Siri. CarPlay is working well for me so I will just pop for the $80 a year.

Any idea if they also killed access to Google Assistant with this same update?

Right now iDrive 6 is looking even better. Here's where software updates can bite you in the butt!

Yes it sends text messages via your phone, when it is connected bluetooth to the X5. It is a bit of a learning curve I tend to talk to fast but have worked to better understand how to use it.

I'll say send message to "blank", you can either wait for it to populate the correct contact or just start talking. I typically wait because I have many of the same names in my phone. After that it ask you to dictate the message, then if you like to send or correct or add more.... Its very simple to use, AFTER you spend time using it and get used to the way it handles it.

Adding quick video I pulled up... its very similar to this!!

This is only for Android and not an iPhone from what I have read and experienced.

Hmm interesting, can anyone confirm using an Iphone you cannot send text via Idrive? That would be very strange since its only issuing the blue tooth to do so. Wonder if its a Apple thing again.... lol

I can second that I am unable to send text messages through IDrive with an Apple iPhone ( seems like some of the simplest things got overlooked.
