Seat Swap Help

Last night I pulled my stock Electric Seats out of my 2008 E92 335Xi and replaced them with Sport Seats from a 2007 E92 donor car from the salvage yard.

I disconnected the battery before disconnecting the seat connectors, and reconnected the battery when seats were reconnected.

The only expected difference between the seats was that the new seats had power bolsters, otherwise they had the same features (shown in the table below).

So post-install, as I expected, the bolsters might not work, but I was surprised to find lumbar isn't working either. All other electric functions work

And I also now have 2 faults:

CC-ID 97 (read from BC)
93A9 (read from my Actron 9690) - 93A9 BELT TENSIONER DRIVER

I'd done a lot of research prior to the swap, and the CC-ID 97 was supposed to have been avoided with the battery disconnect, and that was supposed to be my only error. Multiple posts said this should have been plug & play...

I know from the salvage yard pics that the drivers side airbag deployed, but otherwise there were no other issues. Any thoughts would be appreciated

So 2 issues I could use guidance on when I go attack it tonight:

1 - Bolsters and lumbar do not function on both seats
2 - 2 codes (maybe go away with recoding?)

Thanks for the help

Pete

Based off the picture, you provided the airbag deployed so your seat belt tensioner is blown and will need to be replaced (either new or reuse your old one)

As far lumbar, should work..did the junkyard seats come with the seat modules ?

thanks for the quick reply.

I had read a thread about the tensioner needing replacement after airbag deployment, so thant's for seconding that

When you say seat modules, what do you mean? I thought all the requirements for the seat to operate were built into the seat, hence the plug and play comment.

And my old electric seats had power lumbar, so I assumed that would work

There was a wiring change for lumbar and side bolster after 3/07. Check pin 7 and 9. That pin can be moved as needed.

thanks, I was just reading that thread and had copied the image and the instructions to add +12V to pin 7 and ground to pin 13. Is that what fixes this?

I've also read that the seat module doesn't control lumbar and bolsters, just positioning

I've also just ordered a seat belt tensioner......

Just looking for confirmation here:

reading the wiring table, since the donor seat was manufactured before 3/2007, it looks like it wants power on pin 9 (and not on pin 7 like my 2008 E92 harness would have)

So jumpering pin 4 to pin 9 (+12V) and pin 8 to pin 13 (gnd) should do it?

And hats off to woodpecka for his great thread. It's a wealth of information https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...480313&page=15

Move the pin from 7 to 9 and make sure your thick wires all line up between car and seat.

pin 7 in the car harness is a small red/black wire, implying there wasn't much current needed to power the 08 blosters.

Pin 9 in the pre 07 donor seat connector is a much larger wide blade style male connector (implying maybe more power needed for the donor seat). I saw this same observation in the link I referenced where they saw that the 08 had a 10A fuse vs the 30 amp pre 07

Will it work if I just move the car harness small wire on pin 7 over to a wide blade female in pin 9? Enough current?

does anyone have a part number for the male and female connector pins that are used in this housing at pin 9. In this image I have the harness unplugged and sitting just below the connector on the seat. You can see the bottom right slot is pin 9 missing in the car harness

I'd like to just add the wire for pin 9 to the car side of the harness to make this work if possible

I replaced my drivers seat belt tensioner today and the 93A9 fault code (Drivers Tensioner) error has gone. The old tension was clearly compressed

But I was curious to see if the CC-ID 97 would also go away, which it didn't. And both the seat belt and airbag warnling lights are still on. I've driven the car for 20 minutes to see it would reset by itself but it hasn't.

So question is: Is there still a fault, or is it just that this code needs to be reset by INPA?

Any guidance would be appreciated. I still haven't jumpered the power over to pin 9 for the bolsters, so if it's an INPA reset that I need, I'll wait to reset it until after I've pulled the seats again and added the wires

Thanks so much for the wiring diagram. Really helped me solve the issues with my early 07 seats transplanted into my 08!

I finally pulled the seats today and jumpered pin 4 to pin 9 (from the wiring list) to get power to the lumbar and bolsters on the 07 seats

BooM!

What a relief to finally get this working.... not sure why I waited so long but thoroughly pleased now!

and today I received the Creator C310 BMW Scanner ($54.99 at Amazon) and was able to easily reset the airbag fault! Really like this scanner!

Now the job is done
