'09 E92 DCT transmission

Does anyone know whether the DCT transmission will replace the ZF step on the 335s, or whether you will have the choice between a 6-speed, DCT, and step? Also, is the DCT on E92 335s only? (Obv. the M3s as well lol)

From what I've read, DCT will only be available on 09 MY 335i coupes sold in (wait for it...) Australia. Yeah, I know, it makes perfect sense to me too.

Option 2TC (7-speed double clutch transmission) will only feature on the E92/E93 335i's. Even the 335d won't get it. I know that the 2TC option replaces step at leat it does in Denmark and Germany. I can't be sure for the States though.

Also, as far as I know the DCT transmission in the M3 is superior to the one they put in the 335i. I believe the M3 one has several different speed settings whereas the one in the 335i only has two: Normal and Sport.

Yes DCT is an option on '09 335i E92/E93 in the UK. There is no "step" option now only 6 speed manual or DCT.

Also the main difference between M-DCT and DCT is the Drivelogic software, effectively allowing more adjustment to the gearbox programme. Also launch control is only on M-DCT.

I received the a product argumentation from my bmw dealer, here is mentioned the following:

The new sports automatic transmission with double clutch allows drivers to choose between automatic and manual gear changes. In the latter case, shifts are initiated via either the electronic sport selector lever in the centre console or the two paddles on the steering wheel. Using the paddles in particular gives a highly enjoyable, Formula One-style driving experience; the paddles turn with the wheel, and so they are always to hand, meaning it is possible to change gear even when cornering at speed.

Customer benefits at a glance:

• Seven forward gears mean better acceleration and lower fuel consumption than the six-speed manual transmission.

• Noticeably smoother acceleration, with no interruption to the flow of engine torque during gear changes.

• Formula One-inspired gearshift mechanism, with two paddles that the driver can operate, whatever the position of the steering wheel and without taking their hands off it.

• Launch Control for maximum acceleration from a standing start.

Still don't know why it isn't over the whole E9x range, when you can get it on a VW Polo - it isn't that exclusive, BMW are taking forever to catch up on this one

I dunno, maybe things like cost, the weak US dollar, product planning, training and tooling --- little things like that.
