Chose two SUVs (2)X7 or X5 + X7?
My wife is set on a requirement for 3 rows, so we are preparing to order X7 M50i.
I'd like an additional SUV for running errands, driving kids etc. I assumed a X5 M50i would be the best fit since I don't need the 3rd row, but am wondering if I would be happier with the build quality of the X7 (and order two X7s instead)? Given that the X7 is 9 inches longer, my primary concern would be maneuverability (less so with rear wheel steering). Similarly configured, the price difference is about 10%. I'm not excited about the Cayenne Turbo's ergonomics (and cost), and can't identify anything else I would prefer to either BMW option. We have some other cars, so this would fit the role of a utility player, not an exclusive daily driver. Any arguments for choosing to double up, or for splitting the order between two models? Is there a big difference in the driving dynamics or comfort level (its been a while since I drove either - not back to back) thanks for any feedback! |

Other interesting choices would be:
Lincoln Aviator Black Label Grand Touring Volvo XC90 T8 If you want to stay with BMW, I would go X5 + X7 instead of 2 X7s... |

F pace svr. Fast and not large on exterior but roomy interior. Plus the sound coming out of the exhaust pipes is epic. But based on your post seems like you are glued to a bmw. At that point x3m. Only downside is no V8

Last week I traded my F15 X5 50i for an X7 40i. To me, the X7 is a much larger vehicle. Its easy to drive, but doesn't have as tight of a turning circle as X5 and "feels like" it sticks out in parking spaces I could have fit with X5. I have the 22" wheels and in sport mode it will go through turns confidently. The X7 is very soft in comfort mode. Floats around a lot on uneven surfaces. Sport mode lowers the suspension one setting and firms up the shocks. It feels like regular mode in the X5. I debated on X5 50i or X7 40i. Since Ive already had two X5's decided to try out X7 as it felt more luxurious than x5. And I didnt get 50i in X7, not because of cost, i just didnt feel like i needed it after driving both. 6cyl has lots of torque, is super smooth, quiet, and moves it along nicely. I would have gotten V8 in X5, because for me then it would be semi-sports car-ish. X7 is pure luxury. Oh and X7 is very smooth and quiet. Double pane glass, etc

I haven't driven the active steering on either X5 or X7, but have it on other cars (non BMW). I'm hoping it tightens effective turning radius up further (although in Texas, an X7 is a mid-sized vehicle...)

I'd vote against the XC90, especially if you're used to the level of service of BMW. I came from a 2018 XC90 T6 with every signal option and Polestar. If you enjoy driving, I think X5 or the Q7 would be better choices. I can't stand the looks for the Q7 or else I'd get one. |

I had a 2018 X5 50i prior to getting into my X7 50i. They are two very different rides. If you want a more sportier feel and don't need the extra space stick with the X5. It packs nicer than my RR HSE did. BUT the X7 50i is a dream to drive. The ride is second to none and has everything you could ask for and it still has incredible power off the line. With the Active Steering the car definitely handles smaller than it is. Good luck!
