BMW doesn't release sales specific numbers (i.e. model, engine, body type [E9X], etc.). There are estimates out there, but are not truly accurate.

HOWEVER based on what I’ve heard, read and seen on the roads since my E36-driving days, there seem to be a production pyramid structure where BMW would, for example, manufacture a hundred E90 328i (includes sedans, coupes and xDrive models) for every thirty E90 335i and every ten E91 wagon and every ten E93 convertible (includes 328i and 335i). So you can use that formula as an estimate if you get the total E9x production for a given production year.

Someone on the IS thread figured it out and got all ~ 3600 coupes and all 3600 convertibles down to color, transmission, and interior combo. Might be able to do the same for other models.

Technically, incorrect. BMW doesn't publish it, but all of this information is tracked to great detail in the ETK, going back decades of production.

Why doesn't BMW release vehicle specific production numbers?
I realize this is an old thread, but I want to avoid started a new thread just to as this question.
Does anyone know why BMW won't release vehicle specific information? On another forum I found a thread from someone who seems to have access to the BMW database and said that there were only 68 335i E90 Sedans made with the Alpine White III exterior and Dakota Lemon leather interior. However, when I contacted BMW North America asking them if they could simply verify this info, they said that it was BMW Group Policy to not give out that information, but when I asked why they gave no reply. I just don't understand the secrecy. If someone could shed light on this curiosity I would appreciate it. Thanks |
