Strange idle + more... help?!?
For starters my car has been doing this for a few months and is just getting worse and worse. there is a some slight shaking at idle worse sometimes than others. when I put my car into drive or reverse from a stop it almost feels like it is going to stall, it surges and the rpms bounce up and down and it's only getting worse. I recorded a video of the strange noise at idle it almost sounds like tapping, you have to listen very closely to hear it. If anyone could help me out and point me in the right direction as to what this might be that would be amazing!

How many miles does the car have? You should offer more details about the behaviour of the rough idle. Does the engine check light comes up? Is the shaking worse on startup and when the engine warms up is better?
Usually rough idles are caused by one or more of the following starting with the cheapest to repair and going to the dearest one: - spark plugs - coils - vanos solenoids - cracked valve cover - leaky(faulty) injectors this is not a complete list, there are other possible causes. But that sound shouldn't be related to the issues above. These are just from my experience. |

You need to take the car to a BMW mechanic if you are not comfortable doing some investigation yourself or don't have an OBD reader.
If I were to bet money I would say leaky/faulty injectors. 51k miles seems low to have them go out but I had my issues with injectors at 65k. Can be only one or 2 that are leaking or spreading fuel unevenly. I remember that when I had the problem there was a fuel smell in the cabin in the first minutes after starting the car. However the shaking seem to go away after a while, like 10 mins of driving when the extra fuel would burn off. Might also be some cracked hose or the plastic valve cover. The cover seems to go around those miles anyway. |

Update
These are my codes...
inactive codes 3406- oil pump: pressure too low 2820- absolute pressure sensor, intake pipe: multiple fault Active codes 3447- engine oil level too low (doesn't make sense as I just changed my oil and fixed 2 leaks, also when I check the oil level it is at max every time— this could be from the oil pump pressure too low?) |

How often do you change your oil? if you've got SERIOUS leaking injectors, i would say you're leaking fuel past the rings, giving you fuel smell as well as low oil pressure. However, that's worst case scenario. Best case scenario, you've got something that has come unplugged or a frayed and grounded out wire, or a module has quit on you. You should try to get an oil sample off to blackstone labs to test for bearing wear or fuel in oil.
